.This invention relates to improvements' in phonograph disk record cabinets. l

An object` of our improvements' is to pro# .vide a cabinet in which disk records may be conveniently and compactly stored in edgewise position to reserve the record surface from abrasion ue to piling one upon another.

` Another object ofthe invention is to retain the records in closed com artments provided with convenient and adjustable means to protect the records from exposure to dust' and from unnecessary handling.

A still further object of the invention is the provision of means whereby the records,

though disclosed from view, may be selec-l tively withdrawn from the lcabinet and replaced with the greatest facility. With these and other objects in view, the

Said traveler is slotted at 14 to permit of the passage therethrough ofthe disks. To insure that the said slots 14 shall register accurately in front of the respectiveguide spaces 5 the traveler is provided with a s ringpressed bolt 15 having an end 15 a apted pertaining to one traveler provided with a grooved to seat in the desired one of a plurality of notches 16 in the rod 9. ySaid notches cor# respond to the respective disk-s aces in both upper and lower receptacles an -said spaces are further designated through an index plate 17 havin a transversely arra ed aperture 18 therein through which is protruded the head of an indicator 19'connected to the traveler. Numerals or other index characters are positioned in s aced relation alon said plate in vertical a inement with sai notches and spaces and desirably above or below said aperture to indicate spaces in the upper or lower receptacles respectively.

Curtains 2O of a close woven fabric are mounted upon vertical spring rollers 21 each in close proximity to the respective sides of the cabinet. The ends 22 of said curtains are detachably secured to the respective sides ofl the traveler and in the movement of the latter to and fro along the front of the cabinet the said curtains are extended or t-aken up on the respective roller according to the direction of said movement. rIhe curtains mask the receptacles and their contained disks from view and protect them from dust and unnecessary handling.

Slidably mounted upon a side of the traveler through the guide 23 is a vertical pressure-rod 24 whose lower extremity is pivotally connected to an arm 25 of a bellcrank Whose other arm 26 is likewise connected to an end of a link 27 extended rearwardly along the arm 12 of the traveler. The rearward extremity of said link is connected to an end 29 of a lever 30 medially pivoted at 31 whose other arm 32 is provided .with an enlarged end 33 adapted to engage the rear edge of a record disk when the latter is at rest in a receptacle.

The just described devices are advantageously made duplex as before explained, to provide facilities for the delivery of selected records in either an upper or a lower receptacle in the simplest manner. This can accomplished most conveniently by positioning said devices upon either side of said traveler and connected arm 12 and are so illustrated in the views where like parts in each such device are indicated `by corresponding reference characters.

A fitting 34 fixedly secured to the rear end of arm 12 is provided with branches 35 extending in vertical directions to furnish supports for the respective pivots 31 and guideways 36 to retain the said lever arms 32 in alinement with the plane of the guide-spaces 5 of the shelves 3 and 4.

37 is a rocker attachment (see Figs. 3 and 4) which is pivoted at 38 in a recess in close relation to each of the slots 14 of the traveler. Said locker has a finger 39 which is normally elevated through its overweighted opposite end 40 overbalancing said rocker and causing the finger to protrude upwardly into the slot and in the path of a disk when being ejected through said slot. The rocker ineer is thereupon tilted outwardly and the weighted end 40 correspondingly elevated until the latter is engaged by the spring-jaws 41 which yieldingly retain it in such position whereupon it is evident to an observer that a record disk has been removed from the cabinet. Upon returning the disk to its receptacle Vthe rocker end 40, in its elevated osition as shownin dotted lines in Fig. 3, interferes with thepassage of the former disks, and means upon said said disks may be selectively engaged and through the slot and is forced out of engagement with the jaws 41. and resumes its normal position.

It is thought that the operation of the invention will be understood from the" foregoing description; it is to be noted, however, that all the record-disks are normally disclosed from view and the desired disk is obtained through reference to the index characters upon the plate 17, each character of which designates a particular space formed between two contiguous guide-strips 5, each space being appro riated to the reception of a certain record-disk as ascertained by reference to a list or catalogue. By withdrawing the bolt end 15 from the notch 16 in which it was previously engaged,lthe traveler may be moved in either lateral direction` until the indicator 19 is in line with they number sought. T heeupon the bolt is released and engages within a notch to center and retain the traveler in line with a space yin each of the said receptacles. Downward pressure exerted upon ythe head 24 of a rod 24 in opposition to the compression spring 42 p0- sitioned between said head 24 and the guide 23 causes a forward kick in the lever-arm 32 whose extremity 33 is arranged to engage a disk R and impel the latter forwardly. The disk is emerged through the respective slot 14 where it is grasped by the operator. In passing through said slot it operates said rocker attachment, as aforesaid, to indicate a withdrawn disk. Upon the rod being released the said spring 42 asserts itself and returns the rod and connected mechanism to their normal position. y

Having described our invention, what we claim, isy 1. In a disk-record cabinet, receptacles therein arranged to retain the disksin uniform edgewise positions, a traveler movable parallel to the plane of the rear edges of the traveler whereby1 ejected forwardly from said plane.

2. In a disk-record cabinet, a receptaclel for disk-records provided with guide-strips for the reception of disk-records therebetween, a traveler movable transversely of said cabinet, and acurtain connected upon each side of said traveler and to the adjacent wall of the cabinet. and respectively arranged to be rolled up or unrolled to accommodate the movements of said traveler.

3. In a disk-record cabinet, a receptacle for disk-records provided with guide-strips for the reception of disk-records in the spaces therebetween, a r traveler movable transversely of the cabinet, means to retain the traveler in operative position with respect to one of said spaces, and means whereby said disk-'records may be selectively engaged and ejected from said spaces.

4. In a disk-record cabinet, a receptacle for disk-records provided with guide-strips for the reception of disk-records in the spaces therebetween, a traveler movable transversely of said cabinet, and means to retain said traveler in operative position with respect to one of said spaces.

5. In a disk-record cabinet,` receptacles therein arranged to retain a plurality of disks in side-by-side edgewise positions,a traveler movable transversely to the planes of said disks, and a vertical slot in said traveler parallel to the planes of said disks, and adapted to permit the passage therethrough of said disks.

7. In a disk-record cabinet, a receptacle for disk-records provided with guide-strips for the reception of disk-records in the spaces therebetween, a movable traveler provided with a slot therethrough arranged to have the latter predeterminately. register with any of' said spaces, and a curtain upon each side of said traveler disclosing said receptacle from view.

8. In a disk-record cabinet, a receptacle for disk-records provided with guide-strips for the reception of disk-records in the spaces therebetween, a movable traveler rovlded with a slot therethrough larrange to have the latter predeterminately register with any of said spaces, means to retain said traveler in register with one of said spaces, and a curtain upon each side of said traveler disclosing said receptacle from View.

9. In a disk-record' cabinet, the`combination with a receptacle provided with guidestrips having spaces therebetween for the able curtain upon each side of said traveler Y arranged to accommodate themselves to the movements of the latter, and means to selectively engage and deliver thesaid disks through said slot.

In a disk-record cabinet, the combination with a receptacle rovided with guidestrips having spacesv t erebetween for the reception of disk-records in vertical positions, a traveler arranged for movement transversely to said spaces, a slot in said traveler adapted to permit the passage of a disk therethrough, a rocker in said-slot interposed in the path of a disk, an automatically adjustable curtain upon each side of said traveler arranged to accommodate themselves to the movements of the latter, and means provided u on said traveler to selectively engage and eliver the said disks through said slot.

11. In a disk-record cabinet, the combination with'a receptacle provided with guidestrips having. spaces therebetween for the reception of disk-records in vertical posi- `tions, a traveler arranged for movement transversely to said spaces, a slot in said traveler' adapted to permit the passage of a disk therethrough, devices for securing said traveler in position'to have its slot register with each of said spaces, an automatlcally,

adjustable curtain upon each side of said traveler arranged to accommodate themselves tothe movements of the latter, and means provided upon said traveler to selectively engage'and deliver the said disks through said slot.
