To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD J. Pnomii., a citizen of the United States, residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Carbureteis; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as vwill enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the saine, reference being had to tlieaccompanying drawings, and to characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention has reference, generally, to improvements in carbureters for internal combustion engines; and, the presentinvention has for its principal object to provide a novel and simply' constructed apparatus or device in which a perfect admixture of the vgasolene with'air is obtained to produce the explosive gas which is to be passed into the cylinders of the internal combustion engine.
The invention has for its further object to provide a means for eiciently atomizing' the gasolene so that the same may lie-quickly and thoroughly mixed with theinrushing air taken into the mixing chamber of the carbureter.
A further object of the present invention' means for feeding the gasolene into the mixing chamber of the carburetor, the parts of whichL are reduced to the greatest simplicit in construction, to produce not only `an e ficient gasolene feed, but also a gasolene feed of much higher eiiicie'ncy than that of'the old styles of gasolene feedsmechanism.
- Other objects of this invention'not at this time more particularly enumerated,.will be clearly evident from the following detailed4 description of the same.
With the various objcctsof the present in- Ventron 1n View, the said invention consists, primarily, in the novel-carbui'eter for iii-A lternal combustion engines. hereinafter set forth; and, furthermore, thisinvention consists in the novel arrangements and combina tions of the Various devices and parts, as well as in the details of the construction of the same, all of which will be presently more fully described, and then finally embodied in the clauses of the claim which are appended t0 and which form an essential partv of this specification.

Arranged-'between the said flange 14 of said cylindrical body'or member 12 and said face-plate 15 are one or more atomizer-rings 17, the same beingprovided upon their side-faces with circular grooves or channels 18, suitably disposed in the upper portion or half oit' the said atomizer ring or-rings. Extending from said circullar grooves 18 to the inner edges of the said atomizer-ring are a plurality' of radially dis'- posed grooves or ducts 19 which; are of very small cross-sectional area, and thereby tend to thoroughly break up into small particles the gasolene fed from said Ysemi-circular groove 18 when the same flows through said grooves or ducts 19, and. is delivered all around the interior edges of said atomiaer ring 17, so that the said gasolene may be quickly and easily taken-up and intermixed with the air as it rushes through said inlet 16 into the mixing chamber 13. SaidA atomizer-ring 17 is further provided wthfa gasolene passage 20 which registers with extending through the wall of said shell-like body 2, whereby the gasolene eontainedin the reservoir 3 may be delivered to said semi-circular grooves 18, through thesaid passages 20 and 21, and the said transverse passage 22. The said face-plate 15 'and -atomizer ringv 17 are joined or connected; with said annular Flange 14 by means of suitably disposed bolts and nuts 23, passing' through` the ears or lugs 24 which are connected with said respective members. r1he said faceplate'l is further provided with a centrally disposed perforated hub-portion 25 in which is mounted, rotatably', a spindle 26, said spindle beingffrmed with a' shoulder '27.

It will thus be seen, that not only is the mechanism I have devised very simple in its construction, but it does in fact eliminate the need or use of a larger number of movable parts which tend to get out of` order; and, furthermore, the i operation of the device is reduced to the greatest degree of simplicity, and the control of the gas, as it is delivered tothe cyl.
