y have made certain new and usefl Improvements vin VSide-Saddle Trees, `andI dolhereby declare the fol- `lowing to be a full and true descript-ion tliereof,"refer ence being had to the accompanying drawings, and to, `the letters ofreierence markedthereon.

This improvement` relates 4more especially tothe manner ot' arranging aremovable andv adjustable legrest. to the ordinarysidesaddlestree body, and'.` to the' manner of ,arranging the stir'up-,straps in accordance with the `adjustmentgofthe l,egrest, as aforesaid.`

The leg-rest isshaped as lbrtliuarily, but in order'to prevent loss or damage/of thetree, by breakage ofthe leg-rest, and `especiallyin order, that the leg-rest may' be turned so as to enable the rider `to sit right ork .left upon thesaddle, ,and` thus avoid inconvenience,

' c1'amping,`or soreness by a continuous posture in either `of said positions, I have arranged the. leg-rest B to-be readily turned about in a half circle, and secured in the manner following:

At each end of its circular stroke, the plate G is held by the notches (Z2, of the tablet D, engaging upon a spring-latch, E, which is suitably secured inthe rest i I3, and which may he depressed into a suitable groove to release the tablet D when it is desiredto turn the .y leg-rest.

The tablet D is secured, by screws or other means,

firmly to the top of the front A' of the tree-body, so that when' the latch-spring E is in engagement on the tablet-notches, the leg-rest is fixed in .its position relative to the tree-body; but when the spring E releases the notches cl2, the leg-rest may be turned in a half circular are, so as to enable the rider toirest the leg,

which-'before was in the stirrup-rest, on the leg-rest.

f j In order thatthe stirrup may b e adjusted in accordance with the movement ofthe leg-rest, I-have attached the *stirrnpstrap F, by a hasp, f, to thefront A of the tree-body aboutcentrally. Said strapinay then passV .down either side, to2 engage about a buttonor screw,

g, and thus he on the right' or left side of the treebody, 'as may be required. f It will be seen that my said adjustable leg-rest not only enables ftheuser to occupy the seat, to avoidV great discomfort"iornlongcontinuauce in one position, butin 'case oflbreakag'e 'of a leg-rest,a new one may readilyreplaoe the one thus made useless, withoutdisuse of the 'whole tree-body; and, lastly, the joint of the ltablet D, upon-the top of the body-front A', pray be used tosecure the tree-covering or padding, without the employment of screws or nails` in beneilj to the4 horse or other animal, in` a manner a tree-body, A Af, substantially as set forth.

2. The leg-rest B, the plate C, tablet D, pin d, and slot c, when arranged and combined with the treebody, substantially as set forth.

3. The adjustable stirrnplstrapF, arranged with an adjustable legrest, B, and tree-.body C, all as and for the purpose setv forth.
