GUIDE FOR DRILLING-MACHINES.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 2o, ieio.
hpplication filed September 13, 1909. Serial No. 517,477.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1', JAMES A. Forums, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chili, in the county of Monroe and State of New York,-have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Guides for Drilling-Machines; and I do hereby declare the following to be afull, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will onable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to guides for drilling holes in wheel-tires; and it consists in the novel construction and combination of the parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front view of the guide when in use. Fig. 2 is a side View of the guide showing the support partly in section. Fig. 3 is a detail plan view of the guide.
A is a supportt'or the guide. This support is preferably forked arm which pro jects from the frame of the drilling machine, the usual work-table being removed.
A is a portion of the supporting pillar of a drilling machine to which one end portion of the support A is secured, and a 'is the fork or open-ended slot at the free end portion of the support.
B is a portion of a drill arranged over the support and driven by the drilling machine in any approved manner.
C is a guide-block having a curved top 1, and side portions 05 which project laterally beyond its main portion.
block as shown in Fig. 1, so that the guidepin engageswith one of the old bolt-holes i.
This centers the rim under the point of the I drill, and the bolt-hole is then drilled through the rin a'ccurately and without loss of time in marking oil the work.
What I claim is:
The combination, with an arm having means for connecting it with the pillar of a drilling machine, said arm being also provided with a slot, of an oblong, block which is slidable in the said slot, said block having a projecting portion which rests on the said arm and is adapted to support 2' wheel-rim, and a centering device which projects from the middle part ofthe said projecting portion and which is adapted to engage with a hole in the wheel rim.
In testimony whereof I have aflix'ed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
JAMES A. FERRIES.
