Be it known that l, Winds)! G. Hows,
a citizen of the UnitedStete's, residing at Butler, in the count-yof llekulh and b'tpte of Indiana, have invented a new and useful Trench-Filling Apparatus, of which the fol lowing is a specification.
Thisinvention hos relation to trench-filllug apparatus, and it consists in the novel construction and arrangement of its parts,
as hereinafter shown and described.
The objecs of the invention is to provide a simple and an eilcctire portuhles'pps-I ruins of the character indicated which may 16 be economically operatedior the purpose 0! refilling earth in an open trench.
With the above obieci in view the appr=- rains comprises a wheel-mounted frame upo'n which is located an engine and a journaled shaft operatively connected with the shaft or ihe'engine. A boom is pivotally attached tothe frame, and a mast is erected upon the frame. In operation the platform is arrangct'l upon the surface of the ground at that side of a trench opposite th side thereof upon which the earth is piled and whi h is to he refilled intoJhe trench. The platform 1 being so positioned, the boom 19 extends transrcrselr across the trench andthe pile of dirt to be. refilled. An apparatus as described comprising a wheel mounted platform, ail-engine located upon the platform, a shaftoperatively connected with the engine. winding drums mounted upon the shaft. lever actuated clutch mechanisms mounted upon the shaft for engagementwith the winding drums and being located between the adjacent ends of the drums, a boom pirotally attached to he platform and restrained in swing in a vertical plane only between the adjacent ends of the drums, a cable arranged to wind upon each drum, one of said cables being, guided along the boon] and a, guide for the other cable located upon the platform. a manually dircctible scraper with which both of said cables connect, a brace attached to the boom and pirotally connected with the platform, said cable oide being located upon the. platform at a point between the. end of the said brace and the end of the said boom.
