To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, HARRY A. PETER- MAN and HERBERT C. Pn'rnnMAN', citizens of the United States, residing in theoit-y and county of Philadelphia, State of Pennsylvania,-have invented a new and useful Bottle-Carrying Case, of which the following is a specification. v

Our invention consists in providing a case adapted more particularly to support bottles therein with means for bracing and strengthening its corners and joints.

It consists further of novel means for firmly sustaining the bottles in the case.

It consists further of means whereby adj acent cases placed one on the other may be coupled and so prevented from laterally shifting, disengagement and falling.

For the purposeof explaining the invention, the accompanying drawing illustrates a satisfactory reduction of the same to practice, but the important instrumentalities thereof may be varied, and so it is to be understood that the invention is not limited to the specific arrangement and organization shown and described.

Figure 1 represents a. perspective view of a case embodying our invention. Fig. 2 represents a longitudinal section thereof on line w -w, Fig. 1. Fig. 3 represents a trans- I. Fig. 4: represents a side elevation of a detached portion on an enlarged scale.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the figures.

Referring to the drawing :-A designates a box or case, the same consisting of the sides B and the ends G, the top and bottom of the same being open.

D designates cross wires or rods which are secured to the sides and ends of the case and constitute pockets to receive bottles, which latter are rested on the false bottom E, which is composed of open-work to permit ventilation and drainage, said bottom being supported on the bars or strips F, preferably of metal, the ends of the same being of elbow form ashangers,.the upper horizontal limbs G of which are inserted in the kerfs H in the ends of the case, whereby said bars F'are nicely sustained and secured in position. 13 and have said bars resting on the same for evident purposes.

K designates straps, portions of which are of angular form, the same occupying the upper corners of the case and being secured to the tops of the ends C and exterior of the sides B, they being bent inwardly as at K and passing through kerfs L in the terminals of the sides B and continued vertically downward as at M in the joints between the sides and ends of the case and secured therein by the nails N or other suitable means.

P designates straps, portions of which are of angular form, the same occupying the lower corners of the case and being secured to the bottoms of the ends C and exterior of the sides 13, they being bent inwardly as at Q and passing through kerfs It and continued verticallyupward in the joints as at S between the sides and ends and secured therein by nails T or other suitable means. By these devices the corners and joints of the case are reinforced and vastly'strengtlr ened and well enabled to sustain the severe usage to which the case is subjected while in use, while the relative portions of the case are prevented from splitting, breaking and separation. In the present instance, the portions'M, S of the straps in the joints of the case are joined, whereby the straps are continuous from top to bottom.

present one and engage the walls of the former, whereby the cases are coupled and prevented from lateral sliding or shifting and falling. In order to secure said lips in positionion the case, they have depending portions or legs V from which laterally extend the shanks W, which are adapted to be driven into and occupy recesses X in the edges of the ends G. On the outer terminals of theshanks are flanges Y, which tighten against the walls of the recesses X and so cause said shanks and consequently the lips U to be held firmly in position without necessarily requiring other fastenings therefor.

Having thus described our invention, what we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

1. A bottle carrying case having a horizontally extending recess in a wall thereof,

an u Wardly projecting lip a leg depending rom said lip, a shank extending laterally from said leg, and a flange on the outer 'terminalof said shank, said Shank being adapted to occupy said recess and said flange and leg adapted to clam said shank in sand recess to the opposite si es of said wall.

2. A bottle carrying case having horizontally extending kerfs in the walls thereof, bars having vertical portions extended upwardly and bearing against the inner faces of said walls with their upper ends terminating in horizontal outturned limbs fitted in said kerfs in said opposite walls, a false bottom composed of pieces of open work 15 resting loosely upon said bars, and brace rods" extending transversely of and beneath said bars and upon which the latter rest.
