To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, HERBERT E. SPRING and WALTER II. Locnwoon, citizens of the United States, and residents of Fitchburg, in the county of Worcester and State of Massachusetts, have invented a new and Improved Paper-Pulp Screen, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

Secured to the transverse frame members 12 are Guide members 13, having openings 14 and lateral guideways 15, which connect with the openings 14 respectively. Wedge members 16 are provided, having lateral projections 17 which fit the guideways 15, the Wedge members 16 also being provided with upwardly-disposed projections 18, one at each side, these projections 18 fitting the grooves 10 in the neighboring plate 7 The inner faces of the projections 18 are cut downwardly and outwardly, so that they will fit snugly the grooves 10. The sides of the grooves 10, which are in close proximity to the sides 11 of the plates 7 taper relatively to the sides of the plates, from one set of terminals of the plates to the other, the inner sides of the projections 18 of the wedge members 16 being tapered relatively to the outer sides of the projections 18, so that the tapered surfaces of the projections 18 will correspond with the tapered surfaces of the grooves 10. To one terminal of each of the wedge members 16 'is Secured an arm 19, having an orifice 20.
Bolted to one side of the frame 5, there are a plurality of plates 21, having threaded orifices 22, the threaded orifices 22 being disposed substantially in alinement with the wedge members 16, so that the wedge members may be moved to the said orifices. The arms 19 project into openings 23 in the sides of the frame 5, these openings 23 being made in the frame to permit the wedge members 16 to be withdrawn from the sides of the frame and through the plates 21. Plugs 24 are provided which have outer threads 25, which mesh with the threads 22 in the plates 21 respectively, these plugs 24 also having concave inner portions Q6 in which the terminals of the arms 19 extend when the plugs 24 are disposed in the orifices 29..
When the wedge members 16 are disposed with their projections 18 in the guides 10 and with their lateral projections 17 in the guideways 15, and when the wedge members 16 have been pushed home as far as may be possible by hand, the plugs 24 are introduced in the threaded orifices 22 and when they are turned relatively to the plates 21 with a wrench, the wedge members 16 will Our invention relates to paper pulp screens, and it has for its object to provide with shoulders having tapering with which a wedge member isl ada ted to engageto clamp them together, gui es beingv provided for the wedge memplates Another object of the invention is to provide means for driving the wedge member home and for withdrawing it from the rooves in the plates.

n this specification we will describe the referred form of our invention, it being understood that the sco e of the invention is defined in the appende claims.
Reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, in which similar characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure 1 is a plan view of a screen in which our improvements are incorporated; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is a fragmentary view partially in section, plates, the wedge member and the guide therefor; Fig. 4 is a fragmentary, transverse, sectional view showing the manner of withdrawing the wedge members from the grooves in the shoulders of the plates; Fig. 5 is a fragmentary, transverse, sectional view showing the manner of forcing the wedge members into the grooves in the shoulders of the plates; Fig. 6 is an inverted plan view of one of the plates; and Fig. 7 is an inverted plan view of one of the wedge members.
By referring to the drawings it will be seen that the frame 5 of the vat is of the usual construction, there being clamp bars 6 which are disposed against the sides of the plates 7, these clamp bars 6 being held downs wardly by cam members 8, which are operated by arms 9. These plates 7 have grooves 10 in their under sides 11, the sides which are nearest to the which has a threaded orifice in be driven home, and the plugs are moved inwardly relatively to the plates 21. Nut portions 27 project from the plugs 24, which enable the operator to obtain a firm hold with a wrench to turn the plugs.
When it is desired to remove the plates 7, s0 that they may be cleaned, the wedge member is withdrawn by means of a screw member 28, which has a hook 29 adapted to engage in the opening 20 in the arms 19 respectively, the screw member projecting through a hub 30, having legs 31, which abut'against the outer side of the plates 21.
- To withdraw the screw member 28 through the hub 30, we provide a crank 32, the crank 32 being provided with an arm 83 which the thread of the screw member 28 meshes. It will therefore be seen that when the hook 29 is disposed in the opening 20 in one of the arms 19, the operator, by turningthe crank 32, is able to withdraw the screw member 28, the screw member 28 being forced outwardly relatively to the arm 33, the said arm 38 being prevented from moving inwardly as it abuts against the hub 30.
It will be understood that any desired number of these plates 7 may be used, the abutting sides of the plates 7 being secured together as has been described. While the sides of the plates are secured firmly to* gether to prevent any leakage therebetween, it is possible for the operator, with very little trouble, to free the plates from each other in order that they may be cleaned, which is necessary at frequent intervals.
IjIaving thus described our invention, we claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
1. In a paper pulp screen, two plates with tapering grooves disposed thereacross on their under surfaces respectively, the plates being disposed with sides abutting each other, a member having a central web portion disposed under the abutting sides of t-he plates and two upwardly-extending wedge projections connected thereby, the wedge projections being adapted for traveling in the grooves respectively, and a guide for the member.
2. In a paper pulp screen, two plates with depending shoulders having terminals respectively, disposed side by side, there being grooves in the sides of the shoulders which are farthest from each other respectively,
vthe grooves being tapered from one set of terminals to the other, and a meinber having a central web portion disposed under the adjoining sides of the plates and upwardlyisposed wedge projections having terminals, the wedge projections being tapered at their inner sides from one set of terminals to the other and being adapted to lit the grooves in the shoulders.
3. In a paper pulp screen, two plates with depending shoulders having terminals respectively, disposed side by side, there being V-shaped lgrooves in the sides of theshoulders which are farthest from each other respectively, the grooves being tapered from one set of terminals to the other, and a member having a central web portion disposed under the adjoining sides of the plates and upwardly-disposed wedge projections having' terminals, the wedge projections being V-shaped in cross section at their inner sides and tapered from one set of terminals to the other, for traveling in the grooves.
4. In a paper pulp screen, two plates with depending shoulders respectively, disposed side by side, a member having a central web portion and upwardly-disposed projections, the projections being adapted to slide against the shoulders respectively, the member also having lateral guide members, and a second member having guideways in which the lateral g'uide members on the first member are adapted for traveling'.
5. In a paper pulp screen, two plates ywith depending' shoulders respectively, a member having a central web portion and projections at each side for engaging the shoulders respectively, a screw member for engaging' the first-mentioned member to move it relatively to the plates, and a second screw member with which the irst-mentioned screw member is adapted to mesh.
6. In a paper pulp screen, a frame, two plates with shoulders, a member having a central web portion and projections at each side for engaging the shoulders respectively, a screw member for engaging the first-mentioned member, a hub member through which the screw member is disposed, means for holding the hub member relatively to the frame, and an arm with a threaded opening in which the screw member meshes, the arm beingadapted to press against the hub member.
7. lIn a paper pulp screen, a frame, two plates with shoulders, a member having a central web portion and projections at each side for engaging the shoulders respectively, the member also having an Orifice, a screw member having a hook at one of its terminals for engaging the orifice in the said -member, a hub member through which the screw member is disposed, legs on the hub member which rest against the frame, and an arm with a 'threaded opening in which the screw member meshes, the arm being adapted to press against the hub member.
8. In a paper pulp screen, two plates with depending' shoulders having terminals respectively, disposed side by side, the shoulders lbeing' tapered from one set of terminals to the other, a member having a central web portion and wedge projections having terminals, the wedge projections being tapered at their inner sides from one set of terminals `the hub member which rest to the other and being adapted to slide against the shoulders, a screw member for engaging the first-mentioned member to move it relatively to the plates, and a second screw member with which the first-mentioned screw member is adapted to mesh.
9. In a paper pulp screen, a frame, two plates with depending shoulders having terminals respectively, disposed side by side, the shoulders being tapered from one set of terminals to the other, a member having a central web portion and upwardly-disposed wedge projections having terminals, the wedge projections being tapered at their inner sides from one set o terminals to the other and being adapted to slide against the shoulders, the said member being also provided with an orifice, a screw member having a hook at one of its terminals, adapted to engage the orifice, a hub member through which the screw member is disposed, legs on against 'the frame, and an arm with a threaied orifice in which the screw member meshes, the arm lkneing adapted to press against the hub mem- 10. plates with depending shoulders having terminals respectively, disposed side by side, there being V-shaped grooves in the sides of the shoulders which are farthest from each other respectively, the grooves being tapered from one set of terminals to the other, a member having a central web portion and upwardly-disposed wedge projections having terminals, the wedge projections being V- haped in cross section at their inner sides andtapered from one set of terminals to the other, and being adapted for traveling in the grooves, a screw member for engaging the iirst-mentioned member, a hub member through which the screw member is disposed, means for supporting the hub member against the frame, and an arm with a threaded opening in which the screw member meshes, the arm being adapted to press against the hub member.
