To all whom 'it/may concern:
lie 11 known that I, lixcis BURGER, c1t1-- zen of the,i,l mted States. residing at New of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Fixtures,- of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to canopies for use in connection with chandeliers, electric lights, gas lights, gas and electric brackets and similar fixtures; and the object thereof is to provide improved means for connecting such canopies with the pipes of such devices.
The invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are designated by suitable reference characters in each of the views, and in which Figure 1 isa sectional side elevation of my improvement and showing the same connected with a pipe of a fixture of the class Fig. 2 a plan view thereof, the pipe being shown in section; Fig. 3 a plan view of a reinforcing ring which I employ, and ;--Fig. 4 a side View thereof.
In the practice of my invention I provide a canopy 1 which is of the usual general form and is composed of sheet metal in the usual manner. The canopy 1, in the form of construction shown, comprises a body )ortion made inthe form of an inverted bell, and having at the top thereof an annular ornamental rim, and in practice I provide the bottom thereof with an integral neck 2 comprising a vertical wall provided at the bottom thereof with an inwardly d1- 'rected flange 3. The canopy 1 is adapted to be placed on a gas or other pipe 'et as shown in Fig. 1, and the neck-2 at the b0ttom of said canopy forms, in connection with the pipe 1, when the canopy is mounted on said pi e, a groove which opens upwardly within the canopy and in which is placed a ring 5 secured in said groove and forms a rigid reinforcement for the neck 2, and the bottom of the canopy, and in securing the canopy to the pipe 4 a set screw 7 is passed inwardly through the neck 2 ofsaid canopy and through the ring 5 and bears on the pipe 4, and said ring 5 is provided in one side thereof with a screw threaded aperture 6,

is shown as square or angular in cross section and the rin 5 is also of similar form but my invention is not limited to the form of the pipe 4. in cross section nor to the form of the ring 5 as shown. The ring 5 's also open at one side. in the form of con:
struetion shown. and this facilitates the use of said ring in the manner described and adapts it for use in connection with the necks of canopies which 'ary slightly in size.
In the assemblage of the canopy and the ring 5 all that is necessary is to slip the ring and canopy onto the pipe and then droptthe ring 5 into the groove formed by the neck 2 of the canopy and the pipe, and ,when the canopy has been adjusted into its proper position on the pipe the screw 0 is passed through the neck 2 and through the ring. This avoids the use of solder or any other means for securing these parts to gether and the entire operation is performed by hand and can be quickly and easily performed even by a child and at a minimum of expense.
The ring may be made of any desired metal and the canopy 1 may be ornamented in any preferred manner, and by making the neck 2 integral with the body of the canopy and by securing the ring therein the bottom or neck portion of said canopy is made strong and durable and the outside thereof presents a finished appearance.
Having fully described my inventioinwhat I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is

A canopy for the pipes of gas and other fixtures, said canopy being provided at the bottom thereof with a neck portion comprising a vertical wall and an inwardly directed bottom flange, said wall, and flange forming in connection with the pipe a groove which opens upwardly into said canopy, apd a reinforcing ring mounted on said pipe and adapted to be inserted into said groove from within said canopy and means for secnring the said canopy to said pipe consisting of a set screw iassed through the neck of the canopy an through sald rin 2.
