ARRESTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.

Application filed April 25, 1910. Serial No. 557,437.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 1, DAVID C. MoCAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and State of California, have invented a certain new and useful Arrester, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to an arrester for use particularly in the delivery pipe employed for carrying wood shavings, saw dust and like waste to the bins, preparatory to being compressed into fuel briquets.
One of the objects of this invention is to cause the arrest of foreign bodies, such as nails, stones, wood blocks and the like, which frequently are found in the wood shavings and waste of a lumber mill, before they are delivered to the bin from which the material is fed .to a fuel press for the compression thereof into fuel blocks. The presence of these foreign bodies is apt to destroy the press, or parts thereof, or to ruin a block containing such foreign bodies, inasmuch as the cohesion of the Wood particles will be destroyed.
With these and other objects in View, this invention consists of the features, details of construction and combination of parts described in connection with the accompanying drawing and then more particularly pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a side elevation partly in section, showing the arrester in position and located between two blowers. Fig. 2 is a vertical section on lines w -w Fig. 1, showing a fragment of one of the arresting members. Fig. 3 is a perspective view showing two of the arresting members interlocked, and one of the plates to which they are secured, and Fig. 4 is an enlarged sectional side elevation, showing one of the arresting members, and a portion of another arresting member interlocked therewith, and a nail in the position in which the arrest of the same takes place.
Specifically referring to the drawing, 1 designates a blower connected with a pipe 2 through which material is sucked from a suitable supply, and delivered into the chamber 3, in which is diagonally disposed an arrester 4. The said arrester consists of a plurality of members 5 severally consisting of tables 6 provided centrally thereof with downwardly depending and forwardly extending curved lips 7. Within said curved lip 7 are disposed a plurality of vanes 8 provided approximately centrally thereof with slots 9 for the accommodation of the edge 10 of each succeeding member forming the series, in which manner the individual members are interlocked. The edges 10 of the said members 5 being fitted in the slots of the vanes of the series and centrally thereof leaves the upper half of each of the said members 5 exposed, whereby the material coming from the blower 1 travels through the compartments 11 formed by the vanes 8, and escapes through the compartments 12 also formed by the said vanes S, but which compartments are separated from each other by the edges 10 of the various members which fit into the slots 9 of the vanes. 00d shavings, sawdust and the like may freely be drawn through the arrester by means of the blower 13, but such foreign bodies as nails, stones, wood blocks and the like are caught up in the partitions formed by the vanes, without however impeding the progress of the stream of wood shavings and sawdust. The said members 5 are located between two plates l l and secured thereon by screws or bolts 15 which may extend through the said members and said plate. The aforementioned chamber 3 is provided with grooves 16 in which the plates 14 are adapted to slide. The entire arrester is in this manner capable of being withdrawn from the chamber 3 through a suitable opening in the top thereof, located between the inlet and the outlet, by means of a handle 17, whenever the arrested foreign bodies are to be removed from the partitions of the various members.
What I claim is:- V
1. An arrester comprising a plurality of members each consisting of a table having a depending and forwardly extending lip, the table of each member extending into the recess between the table and lip of a succeeding member.
2. An arrester comprising a plurality of members each consisting of a table having a depending and forwardly extending 1i and vanes arranged between said table an said lip, the table of each member extending between the lip and table of a succeeding member.
3. An arrester comprising a plurality of members, each consisting of a table having a depending and forwardly extending lip and vanes arranged between said table and lip, the table of each member extending between the lip and table of a succeeding member and interlocking with said vanes.
4. An arrester comprising a plurality of members severally consisting of tables provided with lips, vanes forming partitions between said lips and tables, said vanes being provided with slots for the acc0mmoda tion of the end ofthe table of the neXt succeeding member, and means to hold said members in interlocked position.
5. An arrester comprising a plurality of members severally consisting of tables having'downwardly depending and forwardly extending lips, vanes within said lips and provided with slots, said slots being arranged to receive the'edges of said tables in succession, and means to hold said members together.
(3. An arrester comprising a plurality of arranged to successively fit in the slots of said vanes and form partitions, and means to hold said members together.
7 In combination with a chamber having an inlet and an outlet, an arrester within said chamber and located between said inlet and said outlet, said arrester consisting of tables provided with slotted vanes, said ta-v bles being arranged to fit in the slots of said vanes to form upper and lower partitions, and means to hold said members together.
