To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, LAWRENCE A; Mami,
a resident of Wilkinsburg,`in the county'of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have 5 in vented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Pressure Regulators, of which the following is aspecication.
. This invention relates to that type of gas pressure regulators commonly used with gas engines wherein the suction of the charging stroke automatically lp'ens a gas inlet valve,
with means for holding the valve normally closed.
.The primary object is to provide a valve ing the valve7 its most frequent removal being A -for the purpose of cleanin the regulator or -v the valve itself. As is wel known, producer gas contains many impurities, both liquid and solid, and when such gas is used frequent p cleaning of the regulator-is inecessary. lVith V the structure herein proposed, the valve may be readily removed without 4disturbing the diaphragm, thus greatly simplifying the cleaning operation.
ln the accompanying drawings, Figure -1 is a vertical sectional view of a regulator constructed in accordancev with theinvention, and Fig. 2 is a similar View of a portion of the same, showing the vadmission valve einen.
Referring to the drawings, the regulator casing 2 1s of shell-like form, with the openA top ot' its main or suction/chamber 3 closed by diaphragm 4 and the casinr cover or top 5. Chamber 8 connects at 6 wlth the engine or other apparatus supplied through the regulator. The central lower portion of casing 2 is partitioned to form the annular inlet chamber 7, to which extends the gas inlet passage 8, said chamber being open at its top at `9 for. 'the passage vof voas into chamber 3. The bottom of said chamber is open at 10 to communicate with vthe depending settling chamber 11, and the under faces of the walls of openings 9 and 10 form seats the downwardly and carries th'c central guide 15 for stem 13. l55
Beneath this guide the stem is engaged by spring 16 supported by the spider-like extension 17 of bottom 14, with screw 18 for regulating the tension of vthe spring and the consequent resistance of valve 12 to lowering and opening.
Carried by diaphragm 4 is depending stem 19 which moves in the xed guide 20.

The operation will be apparent. The suction created in chamber 3 by the charging stroke of the engine will cause lthe diaphragm to lower under atmospheric pressure and the pressure of stem 19 will open the valve and` admit the required amount of gas, the diaphragm raisino and the valve closing when the charge-has entered. To remove the valve for cleaning it or the regulator casing, it is only necessary to detach bottom 111- of valvel may be withdrawn and ready access had to the interior of theregu'lator. The diaphragm remains inplace and is in no wise disturbed when the valve is thus removed.
