To all whom it may ccmtern:

Be it known that I, ALFRED TREGONING, a citizen of the United States, residing at Los Angeles, in the county of Los Angeles and 5 State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Eraser- Tips for Pencils and. I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention relates-to certain new-and useful improvements in eraser tips for penclls and the means for securing the same in position upon the same.

-It has for its object to so construct the eraser tip and the device by which it is secured ln position that the eraser may be expedltiously applied to the pencil and when 23 the exposed portion of the eraser has become worn, it may be removed, reversed to present another portion and again secured In place.

With these ends in view, my invention 25 consists of a rubber eraser body having a lateral collar or projection intermediate its ends, confined wlthin and upon the upper end of aresilient socket ada ted to be secured in place upon the end of a pencil, and

a hollow flanged ring or ferrule secured removably upon the upper end of the socket and adapted to confine the collar or lateral pro ect1on on the rubber body between it and the up er extremity of the socket as will be hereina ter more fully set forth.

In order that those skilled in the art to which my invention appertains may know how to make and use my invention and appreciate its advantages, I will proceed to referring by numerals ,t0 the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a side elevation of one end of a pencil with my improved rubber tip secured in position thereon, and Fig. 2 is a of the same.

From the described chnstruction and arrangements, it will be seen that while my improved eraser tip may be readily secured in position upon the en s of pencils of rea sonably varying diameter, the eraser is not only held in contact throughout its entire cross-sectional area with the extremity of thepencil, but is also held immovably upon the seat 5 of the socket 2, and that by reason of the form of the body of the eraser, when the exposed end 10 shall have become worn and ineffective, the ferrule or ring nut 6 may be readily removed and the eraser reversed to expose the portion 11 and again be secured in operative relation with the end of the pencil byforcting the socket 2 farther down upon the same.

From the construction shown and described, it will be seen that my invention involves economy in rubber tipped pencils by reason of the fact, that when the exposed portion of the rubber has been worn away, that the rubber maybe readily reversed to present another operative surface.

I am aware that it is not new broadly to provide resilient sheet metal sockets for the ends of pencils and that it is not new broadly to permanently secure eraser tips in the end of sheet metal sockets adapted to be secured to the ends of pencils, but

Having described the construction and advantages of my improvement, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. An eraser tip for pencils consisting of a resilient socket adapted to be secured upon the end of a pencil and having its outer end of greater diameter than the pencil and threaded, and returned at its extremity to constitute a seat for the eraser; an eraser having a collar or lateral projection intermediate its ends adapted to rest upon the seat at the extremity of the socket, and a ferrule having its outer extremity adapted to embrace the lateral projection of the eraser and to confine it against the seat of the socket, and means for interlocking the socket and the ferrule substantially as and for the purpose set forth.

2. An eraser tip for pencils, in combination with a resilient socket adapted to be secured to theend of a pencil, and having its outerwend of increased diameter and threaded, the extremity of the outer end being turned inwardly to provide a seat for the eraser, an eraser body formed with a collar intermediate its ends, a threaded ferrule adapted to be secured to the socket and formed with an inwardly returned extremity to engage the collar of the eraser and press it agalnst the seat-10f the socket.
