To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EDWARD B. HowLANn, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Sandwich, in the county of Barnstable and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Corset-Clasps, of which the follow ing is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to clasps for corsets or the like, and the principal objectof the same is to provide simple means whereby the corset may be retained in a fastened posi tion yet readily released when necessary to permit the removalof the corset.
In carrying out the objects of the invention generally stated above it will be understood, of course, that the essential features thereof are necessarily susceptible of changes in details and structural arrangements, one preferred and practical embodiment of which is shown in the accompanying drawings, wherein Figure 1 is a fragmentary top plan view showing the edge steels of a corset locked together by the improved clasp. Fig. 2 is a similar view showing the clasp in position to release the steels. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the structure shown in Fig. 1. Fig. l is a transverse vertical sectional view taken on the line 4ll, Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a similar view taken on the line 55, Fig. 2.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 1, 1910.
Referring to said accompanying drawings 1 by numerals, l 2 designate the two front or edge steels of a corset which are located on opposite sides of the longitudinal edges thereof. Steel 2 is provided with a stud 3 which may be of the usual or any preferred type.

minating adjacent the free end of said plate. The free end of said plate is provided with pivot ears 7 to which one end of a flat lever S is pivotally connected. The pivoted end of lever 8 is provided with a centrally located cam 9 which projects at right angles to the body of said lever. Said lever has its free end in the form of a flat curved hand grip 10.
To fasten the clasp, the steels are drawn together and stud 3 is passed through opening 5 of plate at and when said steels are released, the stud will enter slot 6, and there by retain the steels fastened together. To release the clasp, lever 8 is rock-ed to the position shown in Figs. :2 and 5 which causes cam 9 to contact with stud 3 so that the steels are drawn together, causing stud 3 to leave slot 6 and enter opening 5, which open ing being larger in diameter than the head of stud 3, readily permits plate l to be disengaged therefrom.
VVha-t I claim as my invention is 1. In a device of the character described the combination with a pair of steels, of a stud carried by one steel, a plate carried by the other steel, said plate provided. with an opening and a slot for engaging said stud, a lever pivoted to said plate and adapted to swing in a plane at right angles thereto, and a cam projecting at right angles to the outer surface of said lever and adapted to force said stud from said slot and opening.
2. A clasp of the character described comprising a plate provided with stud engaging means, a stud, a lever pivoted to said plate, a cam carried by said lever and adapted to extend longitudinally of said stud and abut against it when in a locked position.
