JOHN ALBERT PRIGGE, JR., 013 NEJV YORK, N. Y.
KEY-RING.
Application filed March 23, E910.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN A. Parser, J12, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the city of N w York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of N w York, have invented a new and Improved Key-Ring, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
Among the principal objects which the present invention has in view are: to proyide a ring of the character described having separated portions adapted to retain keys for distinct uses; to provide a construction for rings of the character described which has provided as a structural feature a name plate; to provide in a ring of the character described a closure member laterally movable from a fixed member to permit the insertion or extraction of keys therefrom; to provide in a ring of the character described a structure the members whereof are normally disposed in the same plane; to provide a structure of the character described the free ends whereof are disposed in position to avoid accidentalengagement with the apparel of the user; and to provide a construction simple, economical, durable and graceful.
One embodiment of the present invention is disclosed in the structure illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which like characters of reference denote corresponding parts in all the views, and in which- Figure l is a face view of a ring constructed in accordance with this invention; Fig. 2 is a top of the same; Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 33 in Fig. 1; Fig. t is a face view of a. ring constructed in accordance with this invention, showing a modified form thereof; and Fig. is a cross section of the same taken on the line 55 in Fig. l.
The present invention relates more particularly to that class of key rings wherein the object or the user is to maintain in separated relation keys having distinctive uses. The arrangement usually selected is that wherein one of the loops 4t, 4 is employed for carrying the business keys, while to the other loop is assigned the so-called private keys. The loops 4:, 4c and a loop 5 are formed from a single extension of flattened or other wire bent to the shape substantially as shown in Fig. l of the drawings.
Within the loop 5 is fixedly secured a plate 6, upon which may be graved, or otherwise provided, the name of the user, con- Specification of Letters Patent.

taining name, residence and other particulars desired. The wire forming the loop 5 is given the segmental shape illustrated, and curved to a complete circle, which it is the design of the invention to produce. At the ends of the segmental sect-ion the wire is bended and extended to the center of the circle of which the curved side sections form a part. The side sections 7, 7 of the loop 5 are bent to form sections 8, 8, which are disposed in parallel relation and extended to the periphery of the circle formed by the completed ring. The wire is, from the ends of the sections 8, 8, bent and extended backward toward the juncture of the radial side sections 7, 7 with the curved section of the loop 5. At the said juncture the curved sections 9, 9 of the loops at, a are departed from, and straight sections 10, 10 are formed, disposing the said sections 10, 10 in close and parallel arrangement with the straight sections 7, 7. At the inner ends of the sections l0, 10 are formed lips 11, 11. In disposing the sections 7 7 with the sections 10, 10 substantially the arrangement provided in the constructing of the sections 8, 8 is followed. By means of this construction there is provided in the completed ring the appearance of a circular disk formed from three segments separated by parallel structural radially disposed members. The plate 6 is held within the loop 5 by being soldered or otherwise mechanically and fixedly retained therein.
In the operation of a ring constructed as shown and herein described, the section 10 is forced laterally from the section 7 to receive and pass between the same the key handle, the section 10 being passed through the interior of the opening provided in the said handle. In this manner the key is introduced from the center of the ring upwardly until the section 9 is reached, when on being released, the keys group themselves around the sections 9, 9 and in hanging arrangement thereon. When it is desired to remove a key from the ring the reverse of this operation is performed.
As stated above, the keys are disposed on the said ring with reference to their uses. This forms a convenient article, as thereby the user may, at any time, and quickly, select the key desired from the bunch suspended on said ring.
The form of construction illustrated in Figs. a and 5 is a modification of that hereinbefore set forth, in that the plate 6 is omitted, and the sections 8, 8 are dispensed with, and a cross bar 12 substituted therefor. Further in this construction and by reason of the employment of the cross bar 12, the extensions of the sections 10, 10 are disposed in parallel relation, and the ends carrying the loops 11, 11 thereof are extended pastthe center to form, at the median section of the ring the triple and parallel arrangement of the bar 12 and the sections 10 10, as seen in the drawings.
The method of operating the modified form is the same as set forth with reference to the form illustrated in Figs. 1 to 3 inelusive.
In both forms of the invention the separated arrangement of the keys is provided for..
Having thus described my invention what 1 I claim as new and desire to secure by Let ters Patent is A key ring comprising a single spring metal wire bent to form a cross bar and two loops extended therefrom, said loops being disposed in the same plane and having straight free end sections disposed in parallel contactual relation with the said cross bar, the free ends of said straight sections being out-turned from said cross bar in the same plane with said loops to form lip extensions for threading the said wire through the handles of keys. Y
In testimony whereof I have signed this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
