WILLIAM PATTERSON PUGH, OF HIGH POINT, NORTH CAROLINA.
- Letters Patent No. 97,692, dated December 7, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT in was Manor-Andaman! soap.
. The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making p t Of the Hame- I, WILLIAM PATTERSON Poen, of High Point, in
the county of Guilford, in the State of North Carolina,
have invented, compounded and used a Detergent Glyeerine Soap.
i The nature andadvantage of my invention consist in the production of a compound possessing detergent properties greatly in excess ofwhat can be accounted for by its alkalinity.
I take of std-soda, farina of any of the ordinary cereals, comrnon soap, eight parts, each; chloride of ammoniunn'one part; water, fifty parts.
Put the water, the sal-soda, and the soap over the fire, and let them simmer one hour, stirring all the while to prevent them froni incrnstin'g on the bottom andat' the edges, as the evaporation will not keep the I "temperature at 212, but will allow it to gotmuch above.-
Lastly, add the chloride of animoniuin, and remove from the fire, continuing to stir until ebulition ceases. Then decant into a shallow. vessel, and divide, when nearly cool,into cakes of suitable size.
This combination and process, if each part he a pound, will yield sixty-five. pounds of beautiful hard soap, at a cost of less than three cents per pound.
The proportion of water may be increased until a nice jelly soap will cost less than .a half a. cent per pound.
What I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-- v The improved soap herein described, made by combining the materials herein named, substantially in the manner described;
