Be it known that I, AUGUST LA CHANGE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ste. Genevieve, in the county of Ste. Genevieve and State of Missouri, have invented a new and useful Carrot Tobacco-Mold, of which the following is a specification.
he presentinvention consists of a carrot tobacco mold.
The principal object of the invention is to provide a strong, simple, durable, inexpensive and thoroughly practical device for molding tobacco and the like.
With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of invention herein disclosed can be made within the scope of the claim without departing from the spirit of the invention.
In the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specificationz-Figure l is a perspective view of a mold constructed in accordance with the present invention with the different parts thereof shown in separated relation, the base member being shown at the lower end of the figure, the plunger at the center and the two removable side pieces at the upper end of the figure. Fig. 2 is a vertical longitudinal section through the mold with the plunger in its lowermost position, showing the shape of the cavity in which the tobacco is molded. Fig. 3 is a transverse vertical section through the center of the construction illustrated in Fig. 2, the section being on the line 33 of Fig. 2. Fig. 4: is a section on the line 4.-4 of Fig. 2. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the plunger.
Like reference numerals indicate corresponding parts in the difierent figures of the drawings.
The mold of the present invention is constructed with an approximately rectangular base member 1 which is formed in the upper surface thereof with an approximately elliptical depression or cut-away portion 2. The elliptical depression 2 preferably is semicircular in cross section as illustrated clearly in Fig. 8 of the drawing.
Extending upward from the four corner portions of the base member 1 is a plurality of guide members or rods 8 which are adapted to fit into sockets or bores 4 formed in the side members 5 and 6 of the mold. The bores 4c loosely receive the rods 3 whereby the side members 5 and 6 can be readily detached from the base member 1 and said rods serve to hold the side members securely assembled in proper posit-ion upon the base member 1. Each of the side members 5 and 6 is formed in the inner face thereof with a semi-elliptical cut-away portion 8, the two cut-away portions 8 of the two side members 5 and 6 registering together to form an elliptical opening in the mold when the side members 5 and 6 are assembled in position upon the base member 1. The end portions of the side members 5 and 6 are slightly separated from each other to form vertically extending slots 9.
Adapted to slide downward between the side members 5 and 6 is a plunger 11 which, as best shown in Fig. 5 is elliptical in plan View and is formed in its lower face with an elliptical opening of exactly the same size and shape as the elliptical depression 2 in the base member 1. At the opposite end thereof, the plunger 1 is formed with fastening devices 12 which pass downward through the slots 9 between the ends of the guide members 5 and 6. When the plunger 11 is forced downward to its lowermost position as illustrated in Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawings, the elliptical opening 13 in the lower face thereof registers with the elliptical opening 2 in the bottom 1 and thus forms an elliptical cavity in which the material to be molded is packed.
The base member 1 is provided at the end thereof with ring or eye members 1 1 with which are connected hook members 15 which are adapted to be engaged with the locking members 12 of the plunger 11 so as to lock .said plunger in its lowermost position.
For the purpose of preventing the side members 5 and 6 from spreading during the molding operation, eye members 17 and 18 are formed on the members 6 and 5 respectively, the eye members 17 being provided with hook members 19 which are adapted to be hooked into the eyes 18 so as to lock the side members of the mold together.
In operation, the side members 5 and 6 are assembled upon the base member 1 and the material which is to be molded is fitted in between said side members. The plunger 11 is then forced downward between the side members so as to press or compact the material in between the plunger 11 and the base member 1. By locking all of themembers of the mold together, the material can be held in packed position until it is properly set. The mold can be readily disassembled when it is desired to remove the molded product.
The mold of the present invention is strong, simple durable and inexpensive in construction as Well as thoroughly practical and efficient in operation.
What is claimed as new is A mold comprising a base member having an elli tical depression in the upper surface thereof and a plurality of upwardly 6Xt811d- 111g guide rods, removable side members detachably connected with said guide rods and having elliptical depressions in their inner Walls, the ends of said side members being AUGUST LA CHANCE.
