CLOTHES-LINE.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, lVApTER O. WALs'roN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Asheville, in the county of Buncombe and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Clothes-Lines, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to clothes lines and the object of the invention is the provision of a novel, cheap and efiicient line which may have its separate sections disconnected one from the other and which is provided with means for interlocking the sections which serve as a clutch to hold the clothes in position upon the line.
Further objects of the invention will appear as the specific description, which follows, is read in connection with the accompanying drawings which form a part of this specification, and in which:
Figure 1 is a side elevation, Fig. 2 is a top plan view, Fig. 3 is a detail perspective View of one end of one of the sections, and Fig. 4: is a detail perspective View of the opposite end.
Referring more especially to the drawing, 1 represents one of the links or sections of the line of which there may be as many as necessary. Each link or section comprises a single strip of wire bent upon itself to form the clutches at its ends and having its free ends twisted around the middle of the link as shown at 3. The clutch member on the left hand end of each link is formed by bending the wire on a compound curve and then laterally to the line of the link and upwardly into a loop 5, the opposite side of the clutch being formed in a similar manner to that just described, 2'. 6. having a lateral bent which forms a continuation of the compound curve 4. In using the clothes line, a number of these sections are connected together in the manner shown and the line is supported at its ends in a slack manner so as to permit lat eral displacement of the sections whereby the pieces of clothes may be placed between the clutch members. It will readily be seen that a sectional clothes line of this character may be put up in any length desired.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is A clothes line comprising a plurality of disconnectible sections, each section comprising a single piece of wire and having a pair of oppositely disposed holding loops at one end thereof extending inwardly, and a laterally disposed clutch loop forming a cont-inuation of the holding loops, the opposite end of each section having a clutching member bent at right angles to the body of the section and adapted to pass through the clutch loop on the opposite end of the adjoining sections, said loop having its head extending parallel with the body of the section and comprising a continuation of lateral holding arms which are adapted to enter and lie over a portion of the holding loops.
