the end that the same maybe readily taken apart and packed into a small space in the barn during the season when not 1 n use.
A further object of my `1nvent1on`1s to provide a. device of the character mentionedr which shall be of simple andpdurable construction and which may be readily taken apart or assembled by anyone and without the use of any special tools. i
' Other objects will appear hereinafter.
With these objects in view my invention consists generally in a frame of knock-down construction, depending brackets detachably secured thereto and rollers mounted in said brackets.
Mv invention further consists in various details of construction and arrangements of parts all as will be fully described hereinafter and particularly pointed out in the claim. v
My invention will be more readily understood by reference to the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specifica- -tion and in which- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a land roller embodying my invention in its preferred form, -F ig. 2 is a side elevation of the same upon an enlarged scale, and Fig.
is a perspective view of one end of the device illustrating the several parts detached.
Referring now to the drawings 1 indicates the frame of the device. This is preferably V-sha )ed and consists of a pair of diagonally isposed horizontal members 2--2 which are secured at their forward ends to a block 3 interposed between them. The forward ends of the members 2, on their inner edges, are beveled as at 4 to fit snugly Y against the block, and bolts 5 extending through said ends and said block rigidly secure the same together. To the rear ends of the members 2 is secured a transverse member 6. The upper face of the member 6 is provided with diagonal recesses or' mortises 7 to receive the rear ends of the members 2- and bolts 8 extend through perforaand tions 9 in said ends and 10 the membe- 6 to detachably secure said members together. A transverse member 11 extends from one member 2 to the other intermediate their ends and is preferably secured thereto by having. its ends mortised into the membersy 2 as at 12.
13 indicatesthe drivers seat supported on the member 11.
Pivotally mounted beneath theforward end or apex of the V-shaped frame is a transverse member 14 which is considerably y shorter than the member 6.
15 indicates the king post or pivot bolt which extends through the block 3v and the member f14, the head 16 thereof being preferably countersunk in the under face of the member 14.
Detachably secured to the transverseF members 6 and 14 are depending brackets 17 in which are mounted rollers 18, there being one roller for the front member 14 and two for the rear member 6. The front roller is of greater length than the distance between the adjacent ends of the rear rollers and is arranged directly in front of the space between said rear rollers in order to roll vthe ground evenly and thoroughly. The brackets 17 each comprise a pair of vertical members 19 and a block 20 secured between their lower ends by bolts 21. The blocks are provided with bearin s 22 for the gudgeons or axles 23 of the ro 1ers.' The upper ends of the members 19 are secured by bolts 24 in recesses or mortises 25 formed in the front and rear faces of the transverse members. The axle or gudgeons of the front roller project beyond the outer faces of the blocks 20 and upon said projecting ends is mounted a yoke 26 to which the draft tongue 27 is secured.
The device above described is of simple construction and may be readily taken apart or assembled by anyone. By removing the bolts 8 and 15 the frame is readily detached from the transverse members 6 and 14 and if it is desired to further separate the parts it may readily be done by removing the bolts 24 which will separate the brackets and rollers from the transverse members.
Having described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
In a land roller, a V-shaped frame, cornprising a pair of diagonally arranged longitudinal members, a transverse member detachably i connected to. the" :rear ',.end f of' said ber lontudinal members, said transverse mem eing provlded with recesses in its upper t y Y and said transverse face to receive said ends a second transverse member detachably an ivotally mounted beneath' the forward en frame, dependin brackets detachably secured to each o sa'd transverse members and rollers mount'e in said brackets, each or apex ,of said of said brackets comprising a dpair of substantially'vertical members an a 'block secured between their lower ends, said transverse members being provided withfrecesses intheir front andrear faces to receive the up er ends'of said vertical members, and 1.3 bo ts extending .through said u per ends members, s 1 1 stantially c 1 aszdescribed.-
' In testimonyvwhereof I have signed my name ,tQfthis specification in the presencejof 2o two subscribing witnesses. y
