ROLLER OR WHEELED SKATE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 15, 1910.
Application filed November 22, 1909. Serial No. 529,323.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MENNO S. MISHLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Akron, in the county of Summit and State of Ohio, have invented new and useful Improvements in Roller or Wheeled Skates, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in roller or wheeled skates, and the object is to provide a simple and improved construction of skate of this type having a novel brake arrangement.
With the above object in view, the invention consists in the novel features of construction hereinafter fully described, particularly pointed out in the claims, and clearly illustrated by the accompanying drawing, in which- Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section of a skate constructed in accordance with my invention, and Fig. 2, a top plan view.
Referring now more particularly to said drawing, the numeral 1 designates the frame. of the skate which consists of the two side members 2 which are depressed intermediately of their ends, at which point they are connected by a bar 3 which is pivotally mounted at its ends therein. The rear ends of these side-members 2 are connected by a curved piece 1, to which the braced yoke 5 carrying the rear-wheel 6, is attached. The front ends of the two side-members are connected by a rigid shaft or axle 7 on which on the outside of the frame, the two front wheels 8 are mounted. The shaft between the side members of the frame is bent upward, so as to afford room for the toe of the user of the skate.
Attached to the pivoted bar 3 is a footrest 9. By moving the foot to bring either the heel or toe portion of this foot-rest in contact with the ground as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 a brake is provided for the skate either at the front or back thereof. Also a hold may be secured on the ground whereby a firmer and stronger stroke may be made.
The numeral 10 designates a spring which engages the pivoted foot-rest near its pivot which normally holds said foot-rest in horizontal position and prevents it from swinging loosely on said pivot.
Having thus fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent of the United States, is
1. A roller skate comprising a frame, supporting-wheels, and a foot rest pivotally suspended beneath said frame.
2. A roller skate comprising a frame, supporting-wheels, and a foot-rest mounted beneath the frame so that either its front or rear end may be brought in contact with the ground.
3. A roller skate comprising a frame, a supporting-wheel at the rear end thereof, a pair of supporting-wheels at the front end, and an intermediately pivoted foot-rest suspended beneath the frame.
4. A roller skate comprising a frame, supporting-wheels, a foot-rest pivoted beneath the frame so that either its front or rear end may be brought in contact with the ground, and a spring engaging said foot-rest and tending to hold it normally in horizontal position.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
