BLIND-STOP.
Application filed February 19, 1910.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Serial No. 544,878.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAKOB AUGUST HED- BERG, a subject of the King of Sweden, and
resident of Odinplatsen 3, Gottenborg, in'
the Kingdom of Sweden, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Blind- Stops, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
This invention relates to an operating device for window blinds 2'. e. means, whereby the ribs of the blind can be turned into any desired inclined position and held in the same.
The said means consist of a rotatable disk connected with the top lath of the blind and acted upon by a braking device. The said disk can be rotated by means of a chain, a cord or the like in opposite directions and to the necessary positions.
In the accompanying drawing Figure 1 is a front view and partly a longitudinal section of the device. Fig. 2 is a section on the line w-m of Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a side view of the device, one of the end walls or the cover of the casing being removed.
The operating device consists of a circular disk 2, located in a casing 1 and journaled with its hub 3 in the end wall 4: and the cover 5 of the said casing 1. The said disk 2 is provided in its periphery with a groove 6, in which a chain 7, cord or the like is mounted, the said chain being fixed to the disk 2 in any suitable manner. The ends of the chain 7 pass through an opening in the side wall of the casing 1 and over guide rollers 8, 8 journaled on a pin 9 and a screw pin 10 respectively fixed in lugs 11 projecting from the end wall a, the cover 5 and the side wall of the casing 1. 12 is a ringshaped distance piece located on the screw pin 1-0. From the rollers 8, 8 the chain 7 passes freely downward. The hub 3 has a square opening, into which the square end pin 13 of the top lath 14 of the blind is inserted. 15 is one of the ribbons supporting the ribs 16 of the blind in the well known manner. Consequently, by pulling on the one part or the other of the chain 7 the disk 2 with the pin 13 and the top lath 14 will be rotated, so that the ribs 16 can be turned into any desired inclined position.
In order that the disk 2 may be held in any position without the chain 7 being made fast, it is provided with a braking device of suitable construction. According to the drawing the said braking deviceconsists of a cylindrical part 17 of the disk 2 around which a brake-band 18 is located. The ends of the said band are connected by a screw bolt 19 and a nut 20, so that the band can be suitably tightened. The ends of the band project through an opening in the side wall of the casing 1, the band being thus prevented from rotating with the disk 2. Owing to the described arrangement the disk 2 is evidently locked in any desired position.
Any suitable breaking device may be used but the one described is very simple and adapted to its purpose.
Having now described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a blind stop, in combination with the top lath of the blind, a disk connected with the said lath and journaled in station ary brackets, a braking device surrounding said disk, and means for rotating the said disk, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
2. In a blind stop, in combination with the top lath of the blind, a disk connected with said lath and journaled in stationary brackets, a friction braking device acting gpen said disk, and means for rotating said 3. In a blind stop, in combination with the top lath of the blind, a rotatable disk connected with said lath, said disk being provided with a smooth periphery, a friction braking device acting upon said periphery, and means for rotating said disk.
4. In a blind stop, in combination with the top lath of the blind, a disk connected with said lath, and journaled in brackets, a braking device acting upon said disk, means for varying the braking effect thereof and means for rotating same disk.
5. In a blind stop, in combination with the top lath of the blind, a circular disk, which is journaled in a stationary casing and the hub of which has a preferably square opening, the end pin of the said lath, inserted into the said opening, a groove provided in the periphery of the said disk, a chain or the like located in the said groove and fixed to the disk, a cylindrical surface provided on the disk, a brake-band inclosing the said surface, means connecting the ends of the said band, and means for pre- Pa'tented Nov. 15, 1910.
. venting the band from rotating with the disk, substantially as described and for the purpose set forth.
6. In a blind stop, in combination With the top lath of the blind, a circular disk, Which is journaled in a stationary casing and the hub of which has a preferably square opening, the end pin of the said lath, inserted into the said opening, a groove provided in the periphery of the said disk, a chain or the like located in the said groove and fixed to the disk, guide rollers for the said chain, a cylindrical surface provided on the disk, a brake-band inclosing the said surface, a screw bolt, With nut connecting 15 the ends of the said band, and an opening in the said casing through which the ends of theband project.
In Witness whereof, I have hereunto signed my name in the presence of t'Wosub- 20 scribing Witnesses.
JAKOB AUGUST HEDBERG.
