Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, JAMEs A. STARK- WEATIIER and ()TIs IV. NOTTINGHAM, citi- Zens of the United States, residing at Kalamazoo, Michigan, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Temporary Binders or Loose-Sheet Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in temporary binders or loose sheet holders.
The main objects of this invention are to provide in a temporary binder or loose sheet holder an improved means for securing the binding cord.
Further objects, and objects relating to structural details, will definitely appear from the detailed description to follow.
We accomplish the objects of our invention by the devices and means described in the following specification.
The structure described constitutes one effective embodiment of our invention. Other embodiments would be readily devised by those skilled in the art.
The invention is clearly defined and pointed out in the claims.
A structure constituting an effective and preferred embodiment of the features of our invention is clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, forming a part of this specification, in which:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a structure embodying the features of our invention. Fig. 2 is an enlarged detail taken on a line corresponding to line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a top perspective view of the attaching button removed from the binder. Fig. 4: is an inverted perspective view of the securing button. Fig. 5 is an enlarged detail section through the cord engaging arm, taken on a line corresponding to line 55 of Fig. 3.
In the drawing, similar reference characters refer to similar parts throughout the several views, and the sectional views are taken looking in the direction of the little arrows at the ends of the section lines.
Referring to the drawings, the structure illustrated is provided with a pair of covers 1, to each of which is secured a suitable hinge connection 2 and a binding strip or member 8. The binding cord 4 illustrated is a shoe string. The bottom binding member is provided with eyelets 5, through which the binding cord is passed.
The fastener for the binding cord consists of the eyelet 6 having a laterally disposed, cord engaging arm 7 thereon. About the eyelet are attaching prongs 8 which are arranged through suitable perforations provided in the binding member, and clenched down, as illustrated in Fig. 2. The fastener is also provided with a bracing prong 9 disposed opposite the engaging arm and clenched through the binding strip, so that the arm is braced and firmly secured, as appears in Fig. 2-.
The eyelet and cord engaging arm and attaching prongs are stamped integrally of sheet metal, thus forming a very simple and economical structure, and one in which the parts are readily assembled. The attaching arm is preferably provided with upturned edges, as shown in the drawing, so that the cord can be readily engaged therewith, and this also adds to the strength and rigidity of the arm.
In use the binding cord is threaded through 1.
