To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES BERGENER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Rochester, in the county of Monroe and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Gas-Burner Attachments for Oil-Burning Lamps, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to a holder which supports a gas burner and which can be placed upon the cylindrical wick tube of an oil-burning head light or similar lamp, when it is desired to burn gas in the lamp.
It is often desirable temporarily to use an oil-burning headlight, for instance, that of a traction engine, for purposes of illumination in which a greater illuminating eiect is desirable than that which canbe obtained from an oil burner.
The object of my invention is to provide a gas burner, for instance, an acetylene burner, with a support or holder which can be conveniently applied to the wick tube of the lamp, when gas is to be burned, and which can as readily be removed when oil is to be burned.
In the accompanying drawings: Figure l is a sectional elevation of the wick tube and the holder and gas burner applied thereto. Fig. 2 is a sectional elevation of the holder and gas burner removed from the wick tube. Fig. 3 is a horizontal section in line 3-3, Fig. l. Fig. 4 is a perspective view of the holder and gas burner. Fig. 5 is a sectional elevation of a headlight provided with this holder and gas burner.
Like reference characters refer to like parts in the several gures.
A represents 'the oase of a headlight, B the reflector, C the cylindrical wick tube of the lamp arranged in the case, D the oil pot of the lamp, and E the neck or spout which extends from the bottom of the oil pot to the wick tube. All of these parts may be of any well known or suitable construction.
The holder is provided with an upright inner cylinder or sleeve F which fits around the wick tube and is closed at the upper end by plate f, while its lower end is open so that it can be slipped upon the wick tube. When in place thereon, as represented in Fig. ,1, the top plate f covers the open upper end of the wick tube and the wick and prevents the escape o-f oil at that point. The holder is further provided with a catch chamber G which surrounds the lower portion of the inner cylinder and which carries the gas burner H. The latter is mounted, preferably, upon a forwardly projecting flat tube h which communicates with the upper portion of the chamber Gr and which is provided with an oblique nipple t' from which the burner extends upwardly and rearwardly to a point above the holder. The axis of the burner inclines upwardly toward the axis of the wick tube in such manner that the gas iame will occupy approximately the same position which the oil Haine occupies with reference to the focus of the reilector. The gas passes to the chamber G through a nipple lc arranged near the bottom of the chamber and connecting with a flexible hose or pipe Z. In passing through this chamber the gas parts with the entrained water which collects in the chamber. The water is withdrawn from the chamber, from time to time, through an opening which is closed by a screw plug m, or some other suitable stopper. l The outer shell of the catch chamber extends below the bottom of the latter, forming a depending curtain or skirt which is provided on the rear side of the holder with a downwardly opening notch a by which the holder straddles the neck or spout E and whereby the holder and burner are held against rotary movement on the wick tube.
The holder and burner can be applied to the wick tube or removed therefrom in a very simple manner and are securely supported on the wick tube when applied to the same.
I claim as my invention:

A holder for a gas burner adapted to be applied to the wick tube of an oil burning lamp, said holder comprising a sleeve which fits the wick tube, a gas chamber arranged outside of said sleeve and having its outlet arranged below the top of said sleeve, and a gas burner communicating with said outlet, substantially as set forth.

A holder for a gas burner adapted to be applied to the Wick tube of an oil burning lamp, said holder comprising an inner sleeve which fits the Wick tube and a gas chamber which surrounds said sleeve and has an inlet and an outlet for the gas, and a burner connected with said outlet, substantially as set forth.
5. A holder for agas burner adapted to be applied to the Wick tube of an oil burning lamp, said holder' comprising a sleeve which fits the Wick tube, and a gas chamber having an inlet and an outlet for the gas and having its outlet arranged below the top of said said outlet and arranged outside of said sleeve and inclining upwardly toward the saine, substantially as set forth.

A holder for a gas burner adapted to be applied to the cylindrical Wick tube of yan oil-burning lamp1 said holder comprising an inner cylinder which fits the Wick tube, an outer chamber through which the gas flows and which communicates with the burner, and a depending skirt provided in its lower edge with a locking notch, substantially as set forth.
