Be it known that I, CYRUS W. WILLIAMS, citizen of the United States, residing at Turney, in the county of Clinton and State of Missouri, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Plow-Fender Adjusters, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to cultivators and refers particularly to an improved means for adjusting the fenders which are employed in connection with the cultivators.
An object of this invention is to provide an improved device by means of which the fenders of the cultivators may be raised or lowered by the operation of one hand of the operator and whereupon the adjustment may be accurately had.
The invention has for a further object the provision of an attachment to a cultivator which may be adjusted to the bars of the same at any adjustable angle, and which carries a clamp which is of peculiar formation to admit of such application of the device.
For a full understanding of the invention reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 `is a perspectiveview of the device as applied to a cultivator, the same being shown as broken away. Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the adjusting mechanism. Fig. 3 is a section through the same, and Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the adjusting device oposite from that disclosed in Fig. 2.

Referring to the drawings the numeral designates the support or arm which is provided at its lower end with a U-shaped clamp 11 having formed upon the inner face of the same teeth or corrugations 12.
In Fig. 3 the arm 10 is disclosed as being secured upon a rounded bar 13 which is engaged between the side of the arm 10 and within the clamp 11. The clamp 11 is provided With outturned lugs 14 which engage against the side of the arm 10 and receive suitable clamping bolts 15 which are engaged therethrough and through the arm 10. The upper extremity of the arm 10 is pro vided with an offset portion 16 which is disposed in overhanging relation with respect to the clamp 11 and carries a bolt 17. The bolt 17 is extended outwardly through the offset portion 16, having the head thereof arranged against the inner face of the oifset portion 16 and supports concentrically thereabout a disk 18. The disk 18 is of circular formation and is rigidly secured to the offset portion 16 by the provision of rivets 19. The disk 18 is provided with a plurality of equi-distantly spaced apertures 20 which are arranged in circular formation thereabout for the purpose whichwill hereinafter be set forth.
Loosely mounted upon the bolt 17 is pulley 21 having a peripheral groove for the reception of a chain 22, cable, or the like, having one end thereof secured within the groove of the pulley 21 upon a bolt 23. The pulley 21 is provided with a bushing 24 which extends outwardly from the disk 18 and serves to retain the pulley 21 at right angles to the bolt 17 The outer face of the pulley 21 is provided with a crank-arm 25 which is rigldly secured thereto, and extended radially from one side of the same by the provision of a rivet 26 and a locking pin 27. The locking pin 27 is extended through the innerend of the crank-arm 25 and through the portion 28 of the pulley 21 from which it is proj ected inwardly in alinement with the apertures 20 and engages therein. The bolt 17 extends considerably beyond the outer end of the bushing 24 and supports, thereabout, a helical spring 29 which engages against the bushing 24 to force the pulley 21 against the plate 18, and to thereby retain the locking pin 27 within the adjacent aperture 20. The outer end of the bolt 17 is provided with an adjusting nut 30 which is disposed in threaded relation therewith and engaged against the outer end of the spring 29 in order to regulate the tension of the same. The crank-arm 25 is provided with a suitable handle 31 for engagement by the hand of the operator.
As disclosed in Fig. 1 the chain 22 which is carried within the periphery of the pulley 21 is depended from the pulley 21 and is suitably connected to the fenders 32 and carried by the cultivator. In this instance, the fenders 32 are arranged in pairs and are connected by means of forked chains 33 which are extended upwardly and engaged over pulleys 34 having hoods 85 to retain the chains 33 thereon, the pulleys 84 being supported upon the lower ends of the arms 36 which are depended from the supporting bar 13. The forked chains 33 are passed inwardly over a second set of pulleys 37 which are supported upon the lower ends of the arms 38 where the chains 33 are connected to the lower end of the chain 22.
Vhen it is desired to raise or lower the fenders 32 the operator grasps the ha-ndle 31 and draws the same outwardly carrying therewith the crank-arm 25 and drawing the pulley 21 outwardly upon the bolt 17. This action retracts the locking pin 27 from they aperture 20 into which the same is engaged and admits of the free rot-ation of the pulley 21 in either direction, according to the adjustmcnt required. is had the operator releases the crank-arm and permits the locking pin 27 to engage within the adjacent aperture. The apertures 2O are of a sufficient number, and are arranged in such close relation that a tine adjustment may be had relative to the rotation of the pulley 21.
The adjusting nut 30 is preferably retained upon the outer end of the bolt 17 by the provision of a cotter pin 39 which is eX- tended through the outer end of the bolt 17.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed as new is 1. In combination with a cultivator having fenders, of an arm adjustably supported upon said cultivator, a U-shaped clamp arranged upon the lower end of said arm for engagement about the frame of the cultivator, clamping bolts secured to said frame Vhen the adjustmentA and said arm for retaining the clamp in position, teeth formed upon the inner face of said clamp for engagement with the cultivator, and means disposed upon the upper end of said arm for adjusting said fenders.
2. An adjusting mechanism including a. supporting arm, a bolt extending from one side and from the upper end of said arm, an apertured disk secured against the side of the arm concentric to said bolt, a pulley loosely mounted about the bolt for engagement against the outer face of said disk, a spring carried by the bolt to retain said pulley against said disk, a pin carried by said pulley for engagement in the apertures in said disk and a handle arranged on the pulley to retract the same from said disk.
3. An adjusting mechanism including a supporting bar, a bolt laterally extending from the bar, a. concentric disk ,carried over the bolt in rigid relation to the bar, a pulley loosely disposed over the bolt to seat against said disk, said disk having spaced concentric apertures, a pin carried bythe pulley for engagement in the apertures, a handle carried by the pulley to designate the same from said. disk and to rotate the pulley, and yieldable means connected to the pulley for holding the same against said disk.
