particular reference to the charging of stor-' age batteries located upon railway cars and used for heating, lightingor for any other purposes. It is custmnary, in car yards, to
. connect the cars as they stand idle with an electric main for the purpose of charging their storage batteries, and in such charging systems, there is usually what is called a yard plug which is electrically connected with the main and which is adapted to be inserted into a terminal socket. upon the cars t'o be charged, for the purpose of making the circuit complete from the main to the batteries.
The objexzt of the present invention is to provide a simple and convenient socket or receptacle which shall be particularly adapted to meet. the cmnlitions of use of such terminals as they exist upon railway cars which arecharged through a yard plug, in the car yard.
The details of the invention will now be described in connection with the accompanying drawings in which- Figure 1 is a view in central vertical section through a receptacle einbmlvin; the inright angles to that of Fig. The improved receptacle 15 secured upon the bottom of the car or to any other convenient part through a bracket a to which the casing b of the receptacle is fastened by means of a bolt 0, the latter being arranged to act as a pivot so that the casing may be adapted to face in any direction.- In the present case the bolt extends through what may be referred to as the cover portionpf' the casing to which the body portion, wluch envelops the electrodes, is secured through bolts (1.
The electrodes, which may be one or more in number (two in the present case) are shown at e as heingcnveloped in an insulao ing block f and are provided with sockets at each end so that they may receive the plug terminals y at one end and the tornunals of the storage battery circuit (not shown) at the other end. The latter, it 0 maybe stated, are adapted to enter thocasing through the openings 12.. The block con taming the electrodes is suitably supported in a 1' rame or bracket 5 suspended from the cover plate of thecasing and provided "with 5 openings at the front and back for the reception of the yard plug and battery terminals respectively.
T he yard plug may be of any suitable construction so far as the pre ent invention is concerned, being refer-ably of the form shown and described in an application for Patent tiled November 28, 1908, Serial .\o. 464,887. In the present case 2. plug of this form is shown having, as before stated,
the two terminals g. This plug fits into an opening in the forward part of the casing of the receptacle so that the terminals may be easily hem-ted into theinelcctrode sockets in the block I claim asuny invention:
1. A terminal plug receptacle for railway e rs. comprising a bracket, a casing pivoted to the bracket so as to swin r horizontally when H] pu ition collie-car. e ectrodes, and
a frame within the casing" to support the electrmles.
A tern'unal plug receptacle for railway l'ill'h, comprising' a bracket, a casing pivoted to the bracket so as to swing parallclwith the car bearing surface of the bracket, 1: block containing one or more electrodes, and H102): within the casing to support the block.
3. terminal plug receptacle for railway ears, comprising a bracket, a casing having a cover p ate pivoted to the bracket, a hloek containing one or more electrodes, and a. frame Suspended from the cover plate to support the block.
4. A terminal plug receptacle for railway cars, comprising a bracket, a casing having 7 a cover plate pivoted to'the bracket and a body portion aving openings both at the front and back for the yard plug and battery terminals respectively, a block containing one or more electrodes, and a frame s sended from the cover plate to su port t e iilock and also having openings root and back for the yard plug and battery tempnals respectively. 1

5.1; terminal plug receptacle for railway cars containing insulate socket electrodes for the yard plug termnmls and also for the mum tcrmumls, and means for pxvofally supporting the rccsrptacle fmm the can 6. An electncal conncc'nng member for railway cars con'lprising in combination means for pivotally supporting to a car a holding means and the holdmg means carrying an electrode of a plug andsocket con nection WlllClT is to engage a compgpgon electrode on a yard cable and also carry another electrode of a plug and socket. connectlon much as to engage 2g compzmlon electrade on a cable carried on the car.
