To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I7 ERNEST L. SHAFFER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ce dar F alls7 in the county of Blackhawk and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Straw Stackers7 of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to pneumatic straw stackers for threshing machines, the object being to provide a stacker which is provided with a slidably mounted stacking spout so that the same can be slid back over the threshing machine when not in use.
Another object of my invention is to provide a pneumatic stacker which is revolubly mounted on the rear end of a threshing` ma chine in such a manner that the same can be readily turned so as to throw the stacker spout to any position desired.
Still another object of the invention is to provide a pneumatic stacker which is so constructed that the blast fan will exhaust the dust and chaff from the threshing machine and discharge the same thro-ugh the stacker spout with the straw.
A further object of the invention is to provide means for 'drawing the discharge spout of the stacker out of the stacker spoutin order to allow the same to be drawn rearwardly.
A still further object of my invention is to provide a pneumatic straw stacker which is so constructed that the straw will be forced through the discharge spout by an endless conveyer and discharged into the stacker spout on to an endless conveyer mounted therein and at the same time the air from the blast fan will force the same through the stacker spout so that all danger of the spout choking is prevented.
A still further object of the invention is to provide a straw stacker which can be used as a pneumatic stacker or a mechanical stacker so that in case the blast fan gets out of order the stacker can be used as a mechanical stacker.
Still another object of my invention is to provide the threshing machine with a track on which is mounted a truck carrying a stacker spout whereby the stacker spout can be drawn inwardly so that when not in use it will be held in a lowered position on the top of the threshing machine.
With these objects in view, my invention consists in the novel features of construction, arrangement and combination of parts7 all of which will be hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claims.
In the drawings forming a part of this specification: Figure 1 is a side elevation of my improved straw stacker showing the same 1n position on the rear end of a threshing machine. Fig. 2 is a longitudinal vertical section through a portion of the stacker, the threshing machine being shown in elevation. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line 3-3 of Fig. l. Fig. 4.- is a top plan view of the stacker. Fig. 5 is an enlarged longitudinal vertical section through a portion of the stacker spout. Fig. 6 is a section taken on the line 6-6 of Fig. l, on an enlarged scale. Fig. 7 is a detail vertical section.
Referring to the drawings A indicates the rear end of a threshing machine which is provided with rearwardly projecting top and bottom sills A, A2 provided with turn tables B and C.
Mounted on the turn table C is a frame D the upper end of which is connected to the depending portion E of a track E which is mounted on the upper turn table B and said track is formed of two sections connected together by hinges E2 so that the same can be turned back upon itself in order to allow the track and frame to swing on the turn table for the purpose hereinafter fully described. The inner section of the track is supported by a brace E3 which is adapted to rest on the top of the threshing machine and hold the hinged section in horizontal alinement with the fixed section of the track.
The threshing machine is formed with a straw receiving receptacle A3 having a discharge opening A4 to which is connected a flexible casing A5 through which the straw is adapted to pass. The flexible casing A5 communicates with a discharge spout F which is carried by spaced adj ustably mounted side bars G provided with rack portions G adapted to be engaged by a gear carried by a crank shaft G2 so that the upper sections of the side bars can be extended or retracted in order to move the discharge spout up and down. The lower side bars are carried by standards Gra connected to the frame D and it will be seen that by this construction the discharge spout can be readily raised or lowered, the ieXible casing A5 allowing the same to move freely.
Mounted between the spaced side bars within the discharge spout F is an endless conveyer H adapted to be driven by a suitable pulley and said conveyer is adapted to receive the straw from the flexible casing A5 and carry the same upwardly through the discharge spout and for holding the straw deposited on the endless conveyer so that all danger of the same choking in any way is prevented I provide the discharge spout with a plate I which is provided with longitudinal slots through which are adapted to pass the curved teeth of an endless rake I which is so mounted that the teeth pass through the slots and engage the straw so as to hold the same on the endless conveyer and at the same time aid in carrying the straw through the discharge spout, and said endless rake is driven by a suitable pulley. At the upper end of the discharge spout I" I arrange a slat frame J which is carried by springs J and which is adapted to press the straw so as to hold the same on the endless .conveyer and prevent the mouth of the discharge spout from becoming choked.
Arranged between the rearwardly projecting sills A of the threshing machine is a blast fan K which is provided with an intake K which communicates with the threshing machine above the sieve so that the dirt and dust will be drawn out of the threshing machine through the blast fan and said fan is provided with a discharge spout K2 having a vertical end portion K3 over which is revolubly mounted the vertical lower end L of a pipe section L into which telescopes a pipe section L2 which is carried by the discharge spout F so that as the discharge spout F is moved up and down by the rack and gear the pipe section L2 will be moved at the same time so as to extend the discharge spout and pipe section or retract the same.
hlounted on the track E is a truck M provided with flanged wheels adapted to travel between the upper and lower rails of the respective tracks as clearly shown so that the same can be moved along the track readily and the truck carries a pivotally mounted stacker spout N which is provided with a swiveled nut N through which extends a crank screw O mounted within the truck M so that the stacker spout can be raised and lowered by operating the screw as clearly shown.
Mounted within the stacker spout N is an endless conveyer P over which is arranged a spring pressed frame Q for holding the straw on the endless conveyer and said endless conveyer is driven by a belt R through the medium of gears S which are brought into engagement when the stacker spout is moved into an operative position. The belt R passes over the pulley R carried by a shaft R2 mounted in suitable bearings of the frame D and upon the other end of the shaft R2 is a pulley R3 which is adapted to be driven by any suitable means.
The forward end of the stacker spout is provided with pulleys T adapted to rest on top of the track L when the same is drawn rearwardly over the threshing machine so as to support the same and it will be seen that when the stacker spout is moved into an operative position the forward wheels of the truck carrying the same will drop into the depending curved forward ends of the track so as to hold the same therein without any danger of it moving in any way.
By constructing a pnuematic stacker and mounting the same on a threshing machine as set forth the stacker can be readily swung into any position desired and the stacker can also be easily elevated or lowered by simply operating a crank screw. It will also be seen that the air from the blast fan which also serves the purpose of drawing the dust and chaff from the threshing machine will enter the stacker spout below the discharge spout in such a manner that the straw carried through the discharge spout will be forced through the stacker spout so that all danger of the spout becoming clicked is prevented.
The operation of my improved straw stacker is as follows: Supposing that the stacker is in the position shown in Figs. l and 2 by operating the threshing machine and the mechanism of the stacker straw will be discharged from the straw rei ceiving receptacle of the machine into the discharge spout where it will be caught by the endless rake and the endless conveyer and carried upwardly and deposited into the stacker spout where it will be struck by a blast of air which will carry the same outwardly through the spout, at the same time the straw being aided by the endless conveyer arranged therein. By turning the hinged section of the track back upon itself the stacking mechanism can be readily swung to any position desired and by operating the crank screw the stacker spout can be raised and lowered. Then it is desired to place the stacker spout into an inoperative position so that the threshing machine can be readily moved from place to place the discharge spout is drawn downwardly by the side bars out of the end of the stacker spout and by drawing rearwardly on the stacker spout the truck carrying the same will travel to the end of the track and by operating the crank screw so as to lower the spout the pulleys carried thereby will be brought into engagement with the track in such manner that the spout will be held in a horizontal position on top of the threshing machine.
Having thus fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
l. In a straw stacker, the combination with a threshing machine, of a discharge ICO spout adjustably mounted on said machine, a stacker spout communicating with said discharge spout, said stacker spout being carried by a truck mounted on a track.
2. In a straw stacker, the combination with a threshing machine,having rearwardly projecting top and bottom sills, of turn tables mounted upon said sills, a trame and track carried by said turn tables, a discharge spout carried by said frame, a truck mounted on said track, and a stacker spout carried by said truck communicating with said discharge spout.
3. In a straw stacker, the combination with a threshing machine, of stacking mechanism pivotally mounted on said machine comprising` an adjustably mounted discharge spout having an endless conveyer mounted therein, a slidably mounted stacker spout communicating with said discharge spout, and means for adjusting said spout vertically.

In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine provided with turn tables in vertical alinement, of a track carried by the upper turn table and a trame carried by the lower turn table connected to said track, a discharge spout carried by said frame, means for adjusting said discharge spout, a truck mounted on said track, and a stacker spout pivotally mounted on said truck communicating with said discharge spout.
5. In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, ot' a frame and track pivotally mounted on said machine and adapted to turn together, a truck mounted on said track, a stacker spout pivotally mounted on said truck, means for adjusting said spout vertically, and a discharge spout adjustably mounted on said trame adapted to extend into said stacker spout.
In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine having a straw receiving receptacle and a blast fan, ot a frame supporting a track pivotally mounted upon said threshing machine, a discharge spout adjustably mounted upon said frame having a iiexible connection with said straw receiving receptacle, an endless conveyer mounted in said discharge spout, a truck mounted on said track, a spout communicating with said discharge spout pivotally mounted on said truck, and a pipe eX- tending from said blast fan into said stacker spout, said pipe having a telescoping section carried by the discharge spout.
7. In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, of a discharge spout connected to said machine having an endless conveyer and an endless rake arranged therein, a stacker spoutslidably mounted with respect to said discharge spout and communicating therewith, said stacker spout having an endless conveyer arranged therein, an air pipe carried by said discharge spout extending into said stacker spout, a blast fan connected to said air pipe, and means for adjusting the discharge spout.

In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, ot stacking mechanism pivotally mounted upon said machine, said stacker mechanism comprising an adjustably mounted discharge spout having an endless conveyer and endless rake mounted therein, and a movably mounted stacker spout having an endless conveyer mounted therein arranged to communicate with the discharge spout.

10. In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, of a track pivotally mounted upon said machine, a truck mounted upon said track, a stacker spout carried by said truck and an adjustably mounted discharge spout arranged to deliver straw into the said stacker spout.

In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, of a turn table arranged on said machine, a sectional track carried by said turn table, a truck mounted on said track, a stacker spout pivotally mounted on said truck, means for adjusting said spout vertically and a discharge spout carrying an air pipe communieating with said stacker.

In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, of a track pivotally mounted on said machine having a depending curved forward end, a ianged wheeled truck mounted on said track, a stacker spout carried by said truck, and a discharge spout carrying an air pipe adjustably mounted with respect to said stacker spout.

In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, of a track pivotally mounted upon said machine, a truck mounted upon said track, a stacker spout pivotally mounted upon said truck carrying a swiveled nut, a crank screw carried by said truck extending through said nut, and an adjustably mounted discharge spout carrying an air pipe extending into said stacker spout.

In a straw stacking mechanism, the combination with a threshing machine, of a track pivotally mounted on said machine, a frame pivotally mounted on said machine in vertical alinement and connected thereto, a spout adjustably carried by said frame, an endless conveyer arranged within said spout, an endless rake arranged within said spout co-acting with said conveyer, a flanged wheeled truck mounted on said track, a
mounted on the upper turn table, a frame mounted on the lower turn table connected to said track, a discharge spout carried by said frame having a flexible connection with the straw receiving receptacle of said threshing machine, a truck mounted on said track a stacker spout carried by said truck, and means for adjusting said discharge spout so as to move the same out of the path of said stacker spout.
