To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, DAMoN HoYT and LAWRENCE A. BURKE, citizens of the United States, residing at Brockton, in the county of Plymouth and State of Massachusetts, have invented new and useful Improvements in Moccasins, of which the following is a specification.

Our invention relates to an improvement in foot coverings, and more particularly, to the novel construction of moccasins, or slipers.

Referring more particularly to the drawings for a detail description of our invention the numeral 1 designates the vamp which comprises a substantially semi-circular shaped toeportion 2, a pair of diametrically disposed u per `portions 3, and a medially arrang rearwardl projecting tongue 4. The outer edge of t e toe portion 2 is formed to present a plurality of integral teeth 5.

In assemblin the parts of the moccasin, the teeth 5 of t e toe ortion are brought to bear on the underneat portion of the marginal edge of the tongue 6, and the ears or projections 7 of the latter are inserted under the vamp at the junction of the toe portion gathering,

A line of stitching 10 is also made to secure the upper edge of the lining. The rear ends of the up er portions 3 are then secured together y t e back-stay 11 and the tongue 4. If found desirable, an outer sole 12, the rear extremity 13 of which serves as an additional heel reinforcement, may be incorporated as a componentv art of the moccasin, By virtue of the curvilinear junction of the vamp and ton e, the portions of the vamp intermediate t eteeth 5 are subjected to a whereby Ventilating openings 14 are formed, which, while promoting hygiene do not in the least detract from the ornamentality and design of the moccasin, or in any way augment the expense of manufacture of foot coverings of thls character.

Other salient features of our invention are the employment of a. seamless tongue, and the outer sole with heel reinforcement.

It should be understood that in its broader aspects our invention comprehends not only the employment of the various means described, but of equivalent means for performing the recited functions. arrangement shown is thought, at the present time, to be preferable, it is desired to reserve the right to effect such modifications and variations thereof as ma come fairly within the scope of the appen ed claims.

What is clalmed, is

1. A foot covering comprising a sole, quarters, uppers, a toe portion, and a tongue, said toe portion having projections which are secured to the tongue so as to form openings therebetween.

2. A foot covering comprising a sole, quarters, uppers, a toe portion, and a tongue, said toe portion having peripheral projections which vare secured to the tongue so as to form Iopenings therebetween.

3. A foot covering comprising a sole, quarters, uppers, a toe portion, and a tongue, said toe portionhaving projections which are secured to the underneath marginal edge of the tongue, the vportions of saidtoe intermediate the projections forming openings.
