Be it known that I, HENRY P. SPENCER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Quinlan, in the county of loodward and State of Oklahoma, have invented a new and useful Stove; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to hot-air stoves or furnaces, in which the air is drawn over heated surfaces, or through heated pipes, and then discharged while at a high temperature through suitable outlets or flues to the surrounding atmosphere, or into pipes leading to rooms to be heated.
The main object of the invention is to improve the general structure of devices of this character, there being further objects and combinations of features which will be hereinafter more fully4 set forth and pointed out in the appended claim.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a front elevation of the stove. Fig. 2 is a side elevation. Fig. 3 is a sectional view through the stove, in order to show the interior structure thereof. Fig. 4 is a top plan view. Fig. 5 is a transverse sectional view through the stove, showing the casing located within the outer casing and illustrating the radially extending pipes or fines, through which the hot-air, after being heated, traverses, or to which pipes or iiues leading from various rooms, not shown, may be connected. Figs. 6 and 7 are detail views of portions of a slide, which is inserted below the inner and outer casings.
Relative to the drawings, 1 designates a rectangular base member or portion-of the stove, which is provided with an interior hollow portion 2. 3 represents the outer casing of the stove, while 4 represents the inner casing or Hue, through which cool air is drawn from below the stove, and exits through the various radially extending pipes or flues 5, or through the top of the inner casing or flue. This inner casing or flue is provided with a closure or damper 6, which may be so adjusted as to regulate the outtlowing air, thereby increasing or decreasing the amount of air through the radially extending pipes or flues. The radially extending pipes or llues extend through or span the space between the inner casing or flue and the outer casing, and are secured to the Specification of Letters Patent.

The hollow interior portion of the base of the stove communicates with the space 9 between the inner and outer casings, so that the heat within the hollow interior portion of the base may pass through the space 9 of the inner and outer casngs, and about the radially extending pipes or flues, thus heating the outflowing air.
The space 9 is provided with a cover or closure 11, which is fastened to the inner and outer casings, as shown at 12 and 13, there being a suitable pipe or flue 15 extending through the cover or closure, so that the products of combustion may be conveyed from the stove to the atmosphere.
The rectangular base portion of the stove is provided with the usual supporting legs 1G. The under surface of the rectangular portion of the stove is provided with parallel guides 17, in which a slide damper 1S is received. This slide damper may be adjusted in various positions, in order to regulate the intake of cool air.
The outer casing of the stove is fastened to the upper plate 19 of the rectangular portion, through the medium of an annular flange 20 (which extends about the lower periphery of the outer casing) and bolts 21. These bolts penetrate through the flange and the plate 19, and secured to them are the usual nuts 22. The inner casing extends below the outer casing, and is secured to the lower plate 23 of the rectangular portion, in a similar manner, for instance, by a flange 24 and bolts 25.
The interior hollow portion of the rectangular portion of the stove receives a flanged slide 26, in which a U-shaped cut-away portion 27 is formed, in order to receive the inner casing, and the periphery of this U- shaped opening is provided with a flange 28, while the parts 29 and 30 on each side of the inner casing are provided with flanges 31. The forward portion of the slide has secured to it a front plate 32, which closes the opening of the rectangular portion of the stove, there being suitable latches 33 to engage projections 34, whereby the slide may be prevented from being withdrawn. This slide is designed for the purpose of removing the refuse of the fuel when desired.
The frontplate of the slide is provided with an extended casing 35, through which anirregular passageway 36 is formed, in
order to create a draft through the interior l hollow portion of the rectangular portion of the stove and in the space between the inner and outer casings, the draft being regulated by the slide damper 37.
Heat from any suitable source may be generated in the hollow portion of the rectangular portion of the stove, and when generated, the cool air (which enters from below the stove) may be properly heated and exit through the various radially extending flues or pipes. By completely closing the closure of the upper portion of the inner casing, an increased amount of hot-air may be forced l through the said radially extending flues or pipes, and by opening said closure considerably, the outflow of hot-air through said radially extending pipes may be decreased. By regulating the slide damper below the inner tube, flue or casing, the intake of air may be increased or decreased. The products of combustion pass through the space between the inner and outer casings, and exit through the pipe of flue l5.
Inside the casing 35 plates 40 are secured, one on each side of the inner faces of the said casing. These plates 4() act as supports for the oil cup 41, in which the oil is placed and ignited. This oil cup is of a peculiar shape, as seen, and when the oil contained in the cup overflows the edges thereof, it travels down the incline 42 of the flanged slide 26, below the space 9 between the inner and outer casings of the stove, but the greater portion of the oil, when it does overflow the edges of the cup, becomes partly vaporized, by the incoming air through the opening 43 of the slide damper 37. This slide damper 37 may be drawn outwardly, in order to enlarge the opening between the forward edge of the slide damper 37 and the plate 32, in order to increase the incoming air. After the oil is first ignited, the other inliowing oil is readily consumed. The oil, however, is not fed in such a manner as to overflow the edges of the cup, and in this case, the heat generated from the ignition of the oil travels below the cup, as indicated by the arrows in Figs. 3 and 7, and is conducted through the space 9 between the inner and outer casings, and by regulating the damper 44, the outflowing heat or gases from the space 9, may be governed. The heat or gases or rather the products of combustion heat the cool air admitted through the inner casing, by way of the damper controlled lower end thereof, and by way of the radially extending pipes or flues 5. The oil or fuel is fed through the opening 43 by any suitable means, for instance, in the present application by means of a conduit 46. This conduit or pipe 46 is provided with a valve 47, by which the oil or fuel may be controlled, for instance, the flow thereof.
By mounting the oil cup or receptacle in the manner shown clearly in Figs. 3 and 7, the same is rendered removable, for the purpose of cleaning or the replacing of a new one.
The invention having been setforth, what is claimed as new and useful is In a heating stove or furnace, inner and outer casings spaced apart, said outer casing having a lower rectangular hollow portion, said inner casing being extended down to and secured to the bottom of said hollow portion, in combination with a slide comprising a U-shaped flanged portion to be received in said hollow portion to straddle the inner casing, said slide having an inclined bottom and provided with an extended casing, an oil cup disposed in said extended casing, said extended casing having supports corresponding in shape to the cup for supporting the same, and a slide damper for the extended casing having an opening through which fuel is fed into-the cup.
