ADJUSTABLE CEMENT-MOLD.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. MILLER, a citizen of the United States, residing at Indianola, in the county of arren, State of Iowa, have invented certain new and useful. Improvements in Adjustable Cement-Molds; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art. to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to adjustable cement molds, more particularly to devices of this character employed for forming cement bands around the bases of chimneys and above the roof, to prevent leakage between the roof and the chimney, and has for one of its objects to provide a simply constructed device of this character which may be read ily set up and adjusted for use around chimneys of various sizes, and which may be repeatedly used.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists in certain novel features of construction as hereinafter shown and described and then specifically pointed out in the claims; and, in the drawings illustrative of the preferred embodiment of the invention,
Figure 1 is a view of a portion of the gable of a roof with a chimney extending therethrough and an end elevation of the improved mold device applied and partly in section, Fig. 2 is a side view of the same, Fig. 3 is a plan view with the chimney in section on the line 3-3 of Fig. 1, Fig. 4 is a perspective View of the improved device detached, Fig. 5 is a view of one of the filler blocks of the side members detached, Fig. 6 is a perspective view of one of the filler blocks for the end members detached.
The improved device may be constructed of any suitable material and of any suitable size, but is preferably constructed of wood and comprises a side member formed of three sections 10-11-12, the section 12 ar ranged to overla the sections 10-11, and a similar side member formed of three sections 13-14-15, the section 15 being arranged to overlap the sections 13-14 in the same manner as the section 12 overlaps the sections 10-11, as shown.
The various sections forming the side members are of thesame width but of different lengths, and the overlap ing section 12 is provided with longitu inal slots 16-17,

while the overlapping section 15 is provided with similar slots 18-19. A bolt 20 is inserted through the section 10 and extends through the slot l6'and is provided with a wing nut 21 externally of the section 12, While a similar bolt 22 is inserted through the section 11 and extends through the slot 17 and is provided with a wing nut 23. 'A bolt 24 is carried by the section 13 and extends through the slot 18 and is provided with a wing nut 25, while a fourth bolt-'26 is carried by the section -14 and projects through the slot 19 and is provided with a wing nut 27. By this means the sections forming the side members may be adjusted to any required extent within the range of the slots, to lengthen or shorten the side members, as hereinafter explained.
Located at the outer end of the section 10 is an end section 28, and detachably connected thereto by an L-bolt 29 which is fastened to the section 10 and extends through the section 28 and is secured in position by a wing nut 30. Located at the outer end of the section 13 is another section 31, and secured to the section 31 by an L-bolt 32 and a wing nut 33. Similar end sections 34-35 are located respectively at the outer ends of the sections 11-14 and secured in posit-ion by L-bolts 36-37 and wing nuts 38-39. The sections 28-31 and 34-35 are formed with their lower faces extending at reverse angles, or.
corresponding to the inclined faces of the roof to which it is to be applied, the roof being represented as a Whole at 51. The section 28 is provided with an oblique slot 40 while the section 31 is provided with an oblique slot 41, the two slots arranged to register when the members 28-31 are overlapped at their inner ends, as shown. The members 34-35 are provided with similar oblique slots 42-43 which also register when the inner ends of the members 34-35 are arrangedto overlap. The member 28 is provided with a bolt 44 which extends through the registering slots 40-41 and is provided with a wing nut 45, While a similar bolt 46 is carried by the section 34 and extends through the reg istering slots 42-43 and is provided with a wing nut 47. By this means the sections 28-31 may be adjusted toward and away from each other, while the sections 34-35 may be similarly adjusted, to ada t the angular membersto the roof to applied.
With a device thus constructed when a cewhich they Wlll be ment band is to be applied around the base of the chimney, a plurality of ordinary shingles, represented at 48', are applied to: the roof in the usual manner and a plurality of tin shingles 49 placed in position next to the chimney, represented at 50. The improved device formed of the above described adjustable sections is then located upon the roof and surrounding the chimney, and the various, sections adjusted to correspond to the size of the chimney, so that the sides and ends of the mold device Will be located at a uniform distance from the chimney, the distancebetween the mold structure and the chimneybeing equal to the thickness which the cement band will be when completed.. The cementitious material in a plastic condition is then poured into the mold, and when properly set the various thumb screws are loosened and the mold members moved outwardly to release the mold which is then removed. If it is desired that the outer surface of the cement band shall be symmetrical, filler blocks will be located between the terminals of the sections 1011 and 1314, and filler blocks likewise located between the end members 28 and the side section 13 and between the end member 34 and the side section 14:, the filler blocks being represented at 52. The tinlshingles. which arelocated be-, neath the band will not require to be, fastened to the roof, as the impact of the band will hold them in; position, and then in event of the impairment or destruction of the tin shingles, they may readily be drawn out from beneath the band and new shingles inserted in their places. By this means the life of the band-is materially increased and rendered practically endless.
. The improved device'is simple in construction, can be inexpensively manufactured and repeatedly em loyed, and readily adjusted to chimneys of various sizes.

A mold box of the class described comprising side members each formed'of end sections spaced-apart and an intermediate section overlapping the end sections, filler sections located between the confronting endsof the end sections of the side members and bearingagainstthe intermediate section, end members formed of a plurality of overlapping sections, a filler member located Y between one of the end member sections at each end of the box and the adjacent end section of the side members, means for adjustably coupling the intermediate sections and the end sections of the side members, means for adjustably coupling the end member sections, and means for detachably coupling the end member sections and the end sections of the side members.
