My invention relates to a new manner ot' constructing-the tbot-boardef a skate; also, the arrangement ot `the running gear, to receive rollers t'or summer-use or runners for winter, which may be easily adjusted for both uses, the' object ot which is to provide a simple and cheap skate, as will behcreinnl'ter specilied.

To enable those. skilled in the art to t'nlly umlerstand and construct my invention, l will describe it.

A is the foot-board Bis a tront movable circle-plate.

D are lugs projecting down t'rom the movable circleplatcs B and C to fasten the rollers.

E E are screw-bolts to fasten the m'ovable circleplntes B and C, to the finit-hoard A.

F F are concave washers surrounding the screwbolts E'E.

G is a socket formed in the rear end ot the con.; necting-rod ot' the movable"circle-plate B, to receive the front end of the connecting-rod formed on the front part ot' the rear movable circle-plate C.

H H are ribs, one. projecting down ti'om foot-board A and one projecting upward from t'rontl movable eircle-plate B, to sustain the centre ot' the toot-board A, and also the liont nun-'able circlc-plate B.

I 1 are springs to restore the movable circle-plate in line with the foot-board when thc rollers are not required to run a curve.

I will now specify the construction and operation.

'lhe foot-board A may be made ot vood or-1netil, concave from the top'A at the -front aud-frear ends, to

A cylinder is formed, projecting downward from the finit-board A at the front; and rear ends, directly over the front and rear rollers, to t'orm a circle-plate for .the purposeot' prothu-ing,r sutticient surlaee. t'or the.

Near the centre, on the under side. otthe foot-board A, a circular rib to sustain the'weight on'the t'oot'- board. Also, directly under it, is another circular rib, formed on the. upper side ot' the movable circleplate C. They serve the same purpose as a' titthwheel of' a common carriage.

The front movable circle-plato l is designed to rcv ceive one roller in front, in the centre, and two in the rear, attached to the, sameplate, side. by side, with aconnectlng-rod ot' sutticicnt length to couple in the centre between the t'ront and rear single rollers hy means ot' a socket, G. Y

The object of placing tho two centre rollers side by side, and out otline with the t'ront aml rear rollers, is to cause the l'ront. and rear rollers to turn tothe riaghtl or left, as desired, by rockingr the whole` skate, and giving increased pressure to either one or the other ofthe centre rollers, forcing` them sutlicicntly in'to lino with the iront and rear rollers, toturn as desired.

The li'ont and re'ar movable circle-plates being pivoted to the foot-board, directly over the trontand rear rollers, allows the two centre rollers to he turned to the right'or lett, thereby turning the l' and rear rollers in' a manner to track with the ce crollersr l'he springs I I restore the movable circle-plate and G into -linc wit-h the tbot-hozn'd A when desi cl to run the skate in an upright position straight t'orward. v

The advantagevof coustructim,r the foot-board in this manner is -that it is well adapted to receive the m0 'able circle-plates for receivingr rollers that may be @L7M/.ef #Awe/Q? @wat r im. gew fame easily turned on :my curve, :rnd also runners for ice, fastened rigid by means of lthe sume screw-bolts that lusten lthe rollers lo the foot-board. In either case they are easily adjusted, cheap, and simple in construction, bountiful in appearance, and perl'ect in operation.
