This invention relates mor the fraineless type ofi eyeglasses, and .has for its different objects First-,eto provide a simple and efficientconstruction of 'the manually actuated lever 'tand nose piece or' grip, and involving the ready, andv economilcal production of said' parts'as one piece, with the retention of the original resiliency of the metal from which [said members areforined. Second,V to provide a siinplevand efficient one piece construction ofthe-,s ring for. actuating the nose grip carrying lever, withl which the attachment ofthe spring to the eyeglass bridge is attained in simple and very substantial manner. and which in the present improvement are formed from `flat blanks of the form shown in Fig.r3, eac-li `blank comprising a rectangular 'end portion 13 formed with acentral orifice 14, and an elongated tongue offset from said end portion 13 as shown. In forming 'the sring from said blank, the rectangular en portion 13 and elongated tognue 15 are bent into right-angle relation to each other, after which the middle ortion of said tongue is bent into a volute orm around an axial line passing through the orifice 14 aforesaid, and in a planea small distance removed from the end portion 13 so as to leave a space between the two or-V tions, and so that said portions ma stra die the arched bride 2 of the ey'eg ass when the parts are assembled. The free end of said tongue 15 extends awa from the volute portion aforesaid and is a apted to engage tongue on said lever, bent into a stirrup shape as shown. With the described arrangement, the connection of the tongues or extensions 15 of the springs 12 to the levers 5, are made at distant points from the pivot axis of said levers, andv said extensions are thusutilized to attain increased smoothness and uniformity in the ceiling and uncoilingof the springs.
In an assemblage of the parts above described, the spring 12 will be engaged with the arched bridge 2, as above described, after which the lever 5 is superimposed above the spring, and tlie attaching screw G inserted through the parts to effect the desired pivotal connection.
In the vmodified forni of the nose grip lever 5 shown in Fig. 5, the lever is shown as a separate piece, and is rigidly connectedto a nose piece or grip by a rectangular stirrup formation 17 on its rear end, into which the central port-ion of the nosegrip' fitsV and is secured by an attaching screw. In order to provide the proper thickness of metal at the heel of the stirrupformation 17 to receive the attaching screw the metal of said' stirriip is folded upon itself as shown. f
Having thus fully described my said in- Aveiition what I claim as new and -desire to secure by Letters Patent, is :--l
1. In an eyeglass of thetype herein described, the combination of a rigid arched bridge, a pair of levers pivoted thereon at opposite sides of the arch of said bridge, nose grips carried by said levers, and opera-ting springs of a. volute form interposed between the levers and the bridge and protected thereby, the inner ends of said springs being connected bo the bridge and the outer ends to the levers, substantially as set forth.
2. In an eyeglass ofthe type lherein described, the combination of a rigid arched bridge, a pair of levers pivoted thereon at opposite sides of the arch of' said brid e and provided With stirriips. at the rear o their points of pivotal attachment, nose grips carried by said levers, and'operating springs of a Ivolute forni interposed between 'thel levers and the bridge and protected there-'- by, the inner ends of said springs being connected to the bridge and the outer ends to the aforesaid stirrups of the levers, substantially as set forth.
3. In an eyeglass of the type herein described, the "combination of a rigid arched bridge, a y.pair of levers pivoted thereon at opposite sides of the arch of said bridge,

5. In an eyeglass of t-lie type herein described, the combination of a rigid arched bridge, a pair of levers pivotedthereon atopposite sides of the 'arch` of said bridge, nose grips carried by said levers, and springs interposed between said levers and bridge,-
each spring comprising a atoriced end portion and an elongated tongue' portion entl into a volute form and having a pro-` jecting end engaging a lever, the'twoortions of the spring being separated to orm a receiving eavityifor the eyeglass bridge,
substantially as set forth.
