Description
UNITED STATES PATENT OEEIGE.
WILLIAM H. PEOKHAM, OF NEW YORK, N. Y.
SPECTACLE-FRAM E.
SPECIFICATION forming' part of Letters Patent No. 255,530, dated March 28, 18182,
Application tiled May 24, 1881. (Model.)
To all whom lit may concern Be it known that I,WILLIAM H.`PECKHAM, a citizen ofthe United States, residing inthe city, county, and State of New York, have invented a neWa-nd useful Improvement in Spectacle-Frames, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part thereof.
This invention relates to frames for spectacles or eyeglasses, and especially those wherein the eye-wires have a supplemental or spring loop respectively for the facile insertion and removal of the glasses; and it consists in the attachment-of the nose-piece directly to the spring-loops of the eye-wires for the purpose of preventingr the expansion or Wear ot' the loops and to strengthen them, such attachment beingetl'ected usually by means ot' sockets formed on the ends of the nosepiece for the reception ot' the loops.
rlhis invention is illustrated in thc accompanying drawings,in which Figure l shows one of the eye-wires detached. Fig. 2 is a front view ofthe complete frame. The remaining gures illustratea modification hereinafter de scribed in detail.
The letterA designates the eyewires; B, their springloops; C, the nose-piece5 d, its sockets.
The eye-wiresAare constructed inthe usual way to receive the glasses, and in theexample shown in Figs. 1 and 2 the spring-loops B are formed in one piece with the eye-wires, while in the remaining [igures I have shown such loops as being made separate and attached to the eye-wires opposite to an opening or space therein.
The sockets d ot the nose-piece are at its opposite ends, and are made ot' suitable shape to receive in them the bights ofthe springloops B for the attachment of the nose-piece to such loops-as, for example, by aid of solder.
It will be seen that by the attachment of the nose-piece C to the spring-loops B the latter arefeft'ectually held shut or against expan sion, and no extraneous devices are required for this purpose, as heretofore, and it' is obvious that other means than the sockets cl may be adapted for effecting such attachment.
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
1. The combination, with the eye-wires A, having the spring-loops B, of the nose-piece (l, attached directly to the spring-loops at its opposite ends in such a manner as to clamp the eye-Wires to the lenses, substantially as described.
2. The combination, with the eye-Wires A, having the spring-loops B, of the nose-piece formed with the sockets d at its opposite ends, whereby/it is attached to the spring-loops, sub stantially as and for thepnrpose described.
WM. H. PEGKHAM.
