This invention relatesl to circuit controlling devices, and objects of the invention are to provide'an improved means for mountin the ,movable contact of (rotary snap switches whereby.a lmore durable, inexpensive and slmpleconstructlon'is secured; to

With these and other objects in view the invention consists of the parts and combinations of parts hereinafter described, illustrated inthe accompanying drawings and more particularly pomted out in the append- -ed clalms.

The embodiment of my contact member C shown in Fig. 20 is also formed, without bending, from sheet metal and'comprises a securing portion, two spring arms, and a vcontact portion connecting the spring arms, each arm having extending therefrom guiding lugs for the movable contact. In this embodiment the contact portion is secured at one end only and lies in the plane of the spring arms 1and the securing portion, being provided on its inner face with the lubricant pockets and on its outer face with the radiating ribs.
In Fig. 21 the contact member C12 is the same as that shown in Fig. 20 except that the contact portion is connected to the spring arms intermediate its ends, and that the guiding lugs extend from the outer end of the contact portion. It will be noted that by this arrangement the contact portion is fulcrumed intermediate of its ends.

with a central bore and two vertical grooves leading into the bore. While the handle is in a partially viscous State, a plate E3 is introduced into the two grooves. The side edges of this plate are provided with teeth or serrations which are disposed in such a direction that they will easily slide into the handle, but cannot be withdrawn without carrying pieces of the handle out with them when the handle is in a viscous state, or without breaking the handle when the handle is hardened. The plate E3 (see Fig. 11) is provided with a central spring opening ottom of the opening. When the parts of the handle have been assembled, as shown in Fig. 2, and the handle has been applied to the spindle' G3, an inclinedlu E2 on the plate E3 enters into a notch on t` e ring F before mentioned andpositively positions the handle, and its carried parts, relatively to the switch blade in a manner described in my patent before mentioned. l

As my operating handle is positively positioned relatively to the switch blade, I am enabled to .secure vthe movable indicating means directly to the handle. To accomplish this I provide, in one embodiment, an indicating disk G5 (see Fig. 3) with a central elongated opening corresponding in shape and size to a horizontal section 'through the operating handle E. The disk is then fitted over the handle and rests upon an annular flange which is on the bottom of the handle, this flange closing the opening in the cover through which the positioning means E2 projects as shown i'nFig. 2. To
hold the disk tothe handle, the disk is pro- -vided with two tongues which are cut from fthe metal of thedisk G at opposite' ends of Athe opening therein and are bent beneath tively thereto whilethe tonguesprevent up- I ward displacement of the disk. The indi# leating v characters 'Gr8 have usually been painted on the switch. These characters in time wear off or become coated with dirt thus destroying their indicating quality. Further they are not visible at ni ht or when the switch is installed in a dar place. To overcome these diiiiculties'I cut away the disk to form the characters and position beneath the cut away portion a sheet of mica treated on both faces with a luminous material.
It is common to provide the indicating disk with a guard which covers or hides from view all butthe word or character in- 4 dicating the condition of the circuit. This ard forms the stationary member of thel indicating means. These guards are so constructed that they throw a shadow over the indicating word or character. This dithculty I overcome by providing a guard N2 which has a width approximately equal to the height of the characters, and is supported over the characters by a peripheral flange which engages the periphery of the cover N. The guard is cut away to expose the characters that arey to indicate the osition of the switch. It will be noted t at' by. reason of the segmental .ring shape of the guard it will be spaced from the center of the top of the switch, thus admitting li ht from all`directions to the characters. In Figs. 4, 5V and 6 I have shown an indic'ating means wherein the indicatingb characters are stationary, being carried y the cover N which forms the stationary member of the indicating means, the cover being .provided with an annular elevated portion 1n which the indicating characters are pierced. Beneath the pierced characters and between the cover and its insulating lining are arranged mica plates which are, as in the other embodiment, coated on both faces with a luminous material. The guard N2 is in the form of a ring having a depending flange which is itted to the periphery of the cover, the elevated charactercarrying portion of the cover being but slightly below the top of the ring so as not to be shaded by the guard. The movable member vofl the indicating means is in the form of a rotary shutter G70 which at its ends is bent beneath the guard N20. This shutter is provided at its center with a nonvu circular opening which fits a noncircular I boss on the to of a washer E, the washer being provide in its `periphery with pockets having recesses at their lower ends. Into these pockets are fitted tongues depending from the shutter, said ton ues having their extreme ends forced into t e recesses at the lower ends of ,the pockets to hold the shutter on the washer. The washer rests on ,the center of the cover and over the spindle opening in the latter, being thus surrounded bythe elevatedv character-Carr ing portion of the cover.
