Be ,it known that I, Tnonns D. BAUsi-IER, citizen of the United States, residing Vat Reading, in the county of Berks and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain' new and useful ln'iprovements in Fuel Cartridges, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to a' new varticle of manufacture in the form of a fuel cartridge and the object in the present invention is to provide a device in the form of a container for a specially prepared fuel.
A The device consists of a cylindrical, elastic body filled with fuel, and so made that the outside atmosphere will'have access to the fuel at .all points, to insure the free consumption'of the fuel.
The invention is more fully set forth in the following specification and clearly illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which Figure l shows my cartridge complete. Fig. 2 shows the cylinder before being filled.
The device consists of a cylindrical body portion l, made of a series of loosely woven wire strands, thus permitting a certain longitudinal elasticity.
The one end Q, of the body is semi! spherical and is closed and the opposite end, through' which the cylinder is filled, is normally open but after being filled, is closed by bringing togetherthe ends 3 of the wire strands and twisting them together, or, if preferred, these ends when so brought together may be secured by means of .a binder 4.' The cylinder is filled with particles of combustible material, loosely arranged therein, so as to permit the cylinder to be drawn ou-t to a length that will reduce its diameter sufficiently to permit its entrance into spaces of varied dimensions. particles of fuel are of varied sizes, so that while there will remain air spaces surrounding the'particles, assuring free access of air, yet substantially the entirecapacity of the cartridge is utilized as the smaller particles will find room in the spaces between the larger particles. l
It is evident that both ends lmay be left open, in t-he manufacture of the cylinders, to be closed after filling, as is the one end iir the device just described.
ltis also evident that the size Iof wire used and the size of the mesh formed thereby may be varied to suitfdiferent sizes of fuel particles and conditions.`
Having thus fully described my invention, what l claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A longitudinally elastic fuel cartridge of cylindrical form, made of a series of loosely woven wire strands forming an open mesh, the free ends of said wire strands'being located at the open end, said cartridge being closed at' one end which closed end is semi-spherical in form, and whose open end lmay be closed by joining together the free ends of the wire strands, a binder for tying said free ends together in closed position and a filler'eomposed of combustible fuel particles of varied sizes.
