To all whom it may concrn:
Be it known that I, HERMAN VAN ORMER, of Hartford, Hartford county, Connecticut, have invented a new and useful Improvenient in Rotary Motors, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description, reference being had tothe accompanying drawings, forming part ofthis specification, in which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of a motor embodying my invention, the section being taken on the irregular line I-I of Fig. 3; Fig. 2 is an endview of the admission head taken from its inner side; Fig. 3 is a cross section on the line III-IH of Fig. 1; and Fig. 4 is an end view of the exhaust head looking at the inner end thereof.
My invention has relation to rotary motors, and more particularly to a motor `for operatingsniall tools, such as boiler tube cleaning tools, in which the motor is carried through the tube to be cleaned with the tool, although it may be used for 'various other purposes.
The invention is particularly designed to -provide a motor which shall be of' simple and compact construction; which shall be capable of a high speedof operation, and which may be o )erated by compressed air, although other uid motive power may be employed.
Referring to the drawings, the numeral 2 designates the cylinder of the motor, having l{Shel-ein an eccentrically located piston cham- 4 is the piston shaft, which extends eccentrically through the chamber 3, and which carries the blades 5.
Formed in the wall of the cylinder 2 is a longitudinally extending admission port 6, which communicates with the piston chamber 3 by a plurality of cross-ports 7.
8 is'a longitudinally extending exhaust port also formed in the thickened wall of the cylinder 2 and communicating'with the piston chamber 3 by the lplurality of crossports 9. The ports 6 and 9 preferably extend the entire length of the cylinder, whose otherwise open ends are closed by the heads 10 and 11. The head 10 preferably constitutes the admission head, and is formed with ani interiorly threaded extension l12 de.- signed to be connected with a pipe or hose Specification of Letters Patent.

which supplies the motive fluid. This head is provided with an inlet port 13, which leads to the end of the admission port 6. The exhaust head 11 is formed with a port or opening 14;, which communicates with the exhaust port 8, and through which the motive fluid is exhausted.
The heads are suitably secured to the cylinder by means of screws or dowels, the holes and location of Ywhich are indicated at 15a in Figs. 2, 3 and 4. In theadmission head 12 is a sleeve or bushing 15, which forms the bearing for one end of the piston shaft 4, and in the exhaust head 11V are the bushings 16 and 17, which constitute the bearings for the other end portion of said shaft, the shaft being extended through these bearings as indicated at 18 for connection with the tool to be operated. ATheA bearing portions of the shaft are reduced, thereby forming the thrust shoulders 19, which by contact with the inner ends of the bushings 15 and 16 serve to take upvthe thrust of the shaft in operation, said shaft also has a shoulder engagement at 20 with the inner end of the bushing 17 .l
Seated between the r'ear end of the shaft 4 and the thrust plate 21 in the admission head are a series of antifriction balls 22, which also form a thrust bearing for'the shaft.
The operation is as follows: Compressed air orfother motive uid being admitted to the port 13, passes into the port 6 and enters the vpiston chamber through the crossports 7. The motive fluid exhausts through the cross-port 9 into the exhaust port 8 and out at the port 14. Where the motor is used :for operating a boiler tube cleaning tool, the entire motor is carried through the tube with ioo tails of construction and arrangement by those Skilled in the art, Without departingl from the Spirit and scope of 1nf"in\'ention.
