CAKE BAKING PAN. APPLICATION FILED Nov. 9, 190 9.
Patented Aug. 30, 19 10.
|NVENTDP\ ATTORNEY THE NORRIS PETERS ca., WASHINGTON, o. c,
WITNESSES;
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CARL H. GEISEL, OF WHEELING, WEST VIRGINIA.
CAKE-BAKING PAN.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CARL H. GEISEL, a citizen of the United States of America, and resident of lVheeling, county of Ohio, and
State of Vest Virginia, have invented oer-- tain new and useful Improvements in (lake Baking Pans, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to improvements in bake-pans, and more particularly to a pan which is specially adapted for use in baking cakes.
The object of the invention is to provide a cake-baking pan the side walls of which will not become unduly heated in the baking process, thereby preventing the formation of a crust or hardened surface about the sides of the therein-baked cake.
ith these and other objects in view, the invention finally consists in the particular construction, arrangement and combination of parts which will hereinafter be fully described, reference being herein had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which- Figure 1 is a top plan view of the invention; Fig. 2 is a side elevation of the same; andFig. 3 is a section on the line 3-3, Fig. 1.
Referring to said drawings, in which like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views A designates the sides of a wooden frame which may be rectangular or of any other preferred form. In the lower edge of each side A of said frame is a groove or mortise in which is received the struck-up flange Z) of a sheet metal bottom B. The side A has that portion of Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed November 9, 1909.
Patented Aug. 30, 1910. Serial No. 527,046.
its lower edge which lies within the flange 5 extended to and resting upon said metal bottom, as shown at a, while that portion of said lower edge which lies without the flange Z) is of less length, as shown at a, preventing contact of said frame with the part of the furnace or oven upon which said bottom B rests, and consequently preventing the burning or charring of said frame which would otherwise result. As is obvious, the frame may be made of other material which is not readily conductive of heat, as, for instance, fiber or asbestos board.
In baking, the outer surface or sides of the cake are prevented by the frame from receiving a materially greater degree of heat than the portions thereof remote from the sides; consequently, the formation of a hardened crust is prevented.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-
In a cake-baking pan, a metal bottom having a lateral upturned flange, and side-Walls formed of a material not readily conductive of heat, the latter having grooves in the lower edges thereof in which said flanges are seated, the portions of said side-walls on the outer side of said flange being shortened so that said walls will not contact the bed upon which said bottom rests.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL H. GEISEL.
