To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES L. COURSON, a citizen of the United States, residing at Pitcairn, 1n the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Uncoupling Mechanism for Pipe-Couplings, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the-accompanying drawing.
My invention consists of an improvement in means for uncouplingthe hose terminals of air brake or other pipe connections, and is'designed to provide a'device by which the uncoupling may be effected by an operator located on the car platform, avoiding the necessity of going between the cars.
The invcntionconsists of a lever secured to the hose with such relation to the coupler terminal, that the lifting of the lever will efiect relative rotation and separation of the coupler terminals.
In the drawings ;-Figure 1 is a view of the device in elevation at the end of a car. Figs. 2 and 3 are perspective views of the operating lever, showing diiferent arrangements of clamping constructions. Fig. 4 is a diagram showing the hose terminals coupled. Fig. 5 is a similar view illustrating the uncoupling operation.

well knowntype of coupler 3 in which interfitting disk-like heads with interengaglng lugs and housings of segmental form, are locked and unlocked by a partial rotation of either head with relation to the other. Ordinarily this is done by hand and is accompanied with danger to the operator from getting between the cars.
In carrying out my invention, I provide a lever arm 4 which has a clamp terminal 5 at one end of any suitable kind and an eye 6 or other connecting element for a lifting chain 7 at the other end. The lever is firmly secured backwardly from the coupler head 3 by a companion clamp 8 and bolts as in Fig. 2, or'by a tongue 9 and eye 10 and a bolt as in 'Fig. 3, although any suitable clamping device may be used. ' tends outwardly along above the hose, parallol withits general direction, and terminates air brake or. steam systems are ordinarily coupled by aby its e 6 immediatel above the center of the c pler heads, as 0 early shown in Fig. 1. ;By this arrangement, when the chain 7 is lifted, preferably'by an inserted ring 11, the coupler heads are thrust upwardly as in Fig. 5, the hose sections bending abruptly, due to their stifi' character and weight, so that the angle of each .hose sectio with its coupler head is altered to the posi ion shown in Fig. 5, each head rotating on the other sufficiently to eifcct separation.
The efiiciency of the device depends largely on the arrangement of the lever arm at with relation to the hose and its coupler head as above described.
What I claim is l. U ncoupling mechanism for the joint of a fluid-pressure line consisting of a clamp having a lever arm extending over the coupling and provided with an operating connection, substantially as set forth.
2; The combination with the hose terminal of a fluid circulation pipe adapted for uncoupling by rotation, of a clamp engaging the coupling and provided with a lever extension projecting over the coupling to effect upward lifting androtation of the coupling with'relation to a companion coupling.
3. The combination with the depending terminal of a hose and its coupling head, of an l. shaped lever secured to the hose and extending over the coupling head, substan-' tially as set forth.
4. The combination with thede ending terminal of a hose and its coupling ead, of an L shaped lever secured to the hose and extendin over the coupling .head, and a flexible lifting connection for operatin the lever from above, substantially as set forth.
5; A lever for the purpose described co1nposed of semi-circular clamps havin terminal connecting flanges, one of said 0 amps having a lever arm extending beyond and forming a continuation of one of its flanges,
