To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, l/VILLIAM DIEMER, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Toledo, in the county of Lucas and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Couches, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.

This invention relates to new and useful improvements in couches and consists par ticularly in the construction of a couch with a support by which it maybe suspended to swing, and provided with legs which may be moved to support the couch upon the floor in the usual manner when it is not desired to be used as a swing; and it is also preferably provided with a hinged back so that the back may be inclined at varying angles; and also, when desired for shippin and storage purposes, the couch may be ad usted into a very compact space.

The invention further consists in the con struction and arrangement in combination of the various parts, as will be fully hereinafter described and particularly pointed out in the claims.

At the ends of the side-bars I provide the brackets 0, preferably having hooks 'r' with which the suspension chains 8 engage, these suspension chains passing up beside the head-rests and coming to a common point of support above, so that they may be suspended from a single hook in the ceiling of the porch and the couch thus be swung either front and back or end-wise. The suspension chains or devices 8 being arranged outside of the head-rests, the head-rests may be adjusted between them to any desired angle and the occupant of the couch, by reaching up, can take hold of the cross spreader-bar t and cause the couch to swing while lying thereon. This spreader-bar also keeps the chains free from contact with the sidesof the head-rests, even when the same is adjusted in its lower positions.

What I claim as my invention is:

l; The combination of a couch frame, hinged head-rests thereon, means connected to said frame for adjusting said head-rests, brackets carried by said frame, a back hinged to said brackets, a bracket extending rearward from said frame, a brace rod having its opposite ends respectively engaging the back and said bracket, one of the rod ends having an adjustable engagement with the member it engages.
