inthe accompanying dion/ings', Figure 1 shows the invention in perspective, one oli the holders being Withdrawn to its :toll er;n tent from the case; Fig. 2 is o transverse section of the case; Fig. Irl o section upon Athe line BMS of Fig. 2; Fig. 4i o front elevation of the holder', portions of the case being shown in section; Fig. 5 isal frogmentel section otono of the holdersl end the cese, parts losing shown in elevation, `the'` cutting plone being passed ot right ongles to the front of 'the cose; the View 'illustrating the position which the holder will assume otter the same llos been Withdrawn as for possible from the cose, previous to the rearward tiltingr of the holder; and Fig. 6 is o i'i'ogrnentel section 4showing one ol. the holdei-s partially inserted intothe cose, ports being' .shown in elevation; the cutting plonelaemgpossed et rightsngles to the front/.of
the cose.
in eoi'rying ont the invention there is provided, os o fundamental element, e cose l.' which may 1oo o'f any desired construction. in the present instance, the cese is open on the too ond is provided with o plurality ot partitions 2, extended from the front'of the cose to the resi' thereof. There may be any desired number of `these partitions 2, end

'transverse wire 18 is secured to the side Wells 10. From this cross Wire 18 s seed, parallel spring strips 19eme extended own werdly, and. :wronged to engage the bottom Figi. 5, these upright spring as shown et 20. A. `rod 22 connects the prolongations 11 walls.
-The holders 8 are mounted in thecompertinents detined by the partition. strips 5, and the strips 6 are mounted upon the partitions 2. The holders 8 may be drawn up 'wa.rdly, shown in lig. t, and in such ease, the protruding ends ot' the rods 22 will en`- gage with the strips tt, preventing the holders from being Withdrawn entirely from the ease. Owingto the bevel denoted by the, numeral l2, the helderemay be tilted rearwardly after they are withdrawn partiallv from the case asl shown in Fig. l. W hen the holders are inserted into the ease, the tops 14 of the holders, will presenta flush, inclined surface throughout the entire case, so that the cards 16 may readily be seen. By reason of the fact that. the elements 19 are resilient, and bowed outwardly as denoted by theI numeral 2t), the saidspring strips lt) will bear ,againet the partition strips 5, as -Shown most clearly in Fig. (l, permitting the holders 8 lto be .partially withdrawn from the case, the engagement between the Spring strips 19 and the partition stripe 5 lQerving to maintain the holders tu at any l'ieight to which they may be elevated.
ln the prat-tival operation ot the device, the cards ttl are inscribed with the names ot the patrons of the establishment, each patron having a separate holder. rl`he patron is given his purchase slip, and the carbon copy 2l thereof is mounted in the. particular holder which h'aa ha\exi-zm. iglled to theiipatron. The totaleI may be carried forward trom slip to Slip`I at the time the Slips-are introduced into the holder, the. last inserted Slip thus indicating the ytotal amount of the purchasefrs indebtedness. (lne row of holders, for instance, the. right hand row in Fig. l, may'7 be. indexed with the letters of the alphabet, the ,said row 23 being employed to house petty accounts.
The drawer 7 in the fro'nt ot the ease is a.
useful adjunct for holding writing material slips, previous to their insertion into the holders, and the like.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed is:h
l. As an article of manufacture, un open front holder for filing cabinets, provided with a bottom and side walls, there being a transverse member terminally secured to the side walls, intermediate the upper and lower ends thereof; and spaced springs terminally .Secured to said member and to the bottom, the springs being arched, to outstand beyond the contour ot the holder.
'2. As an article of .n1ain1t'acture, a boxlike holder for tiling cabinets, open at the front only and havin" its top inelined downwardly trom the baci ot' the holder toward the front thereof, the side walls of the holder beine' prolonged below the bottom thereof and leveled upon their rear edges, from the rear of the holder toward the front thereof g there being outstanding projections upon the prolonged portions otl the Side walls; and card-holding nieane upon the top.
3. ln combination, a case open at the top and having partitions rearwardly inclined from their lower toward their upper ends; open trout holders slidable between the partitiomI and having their top` downwardly inclined from the baek ot the case toward the t'ront thereof; there being a bottom in the cane adapted to receive the lower ends ot. all ot' the holders, to maintain their tops ina single plano, inclined with respect to the horizontal; the holders being cut away at their lower ends and upon their rear faces; interlocking elemente upon the holderl and the case to prevent. theholderb` from' being entirely withdrawn from the and means .tor holding slips upon the inclined faces of the holders.
ln testimony that. l claim the foregoing as ,my own, l have hereto atlixed my Signa.- tn're in the, presence of two witnesaee.
