BOW FORMING, HOLDING, AND ATTAoIIING nEvIoE.
Specificationof Letters Patent.
Application filed November 30, 1908.
Patented Aug. 16, 1910.
Serial No. 465,379.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, MINNIE Fnonsii, a citizen of the United States, and residing at New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Bow Forming, Holding, and Attaching Devices, of which the following is a specification, such as will enable those skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
This invention relates to attaching devices or pins for use in trimming hats, waists, skirts and other garments; and the object thereof is to provide an improved device of this class which may be quickly and easily attached to a hat'or other garment, and on which trimming bows may be easily formed of-ribbons, laces or other material.
My improvement consists of an attaching device or pin composed of two parts adapted to be connected when in use, or for use; and the invention is fully disclosed in the following specification, of which the accompanying drawing forms a part, in which the separate parts of my improvement are desi nated by suitable reference characters in eac of the views, and in which Figure 1 is a plan view of my improved attaching device or pin and showing the separate parts connected in full lines and disconnected in dotted lines; Fig. 2 a perspective view of the device and showing a bow formed thereon; and Fig. 3 a view similar to Fig. l but showing a modification.
In the practice of my invention, I provide an attaching device or pin 0; consisting of two separate parts I) each of which is composed of a piece of spring wire of predetermined length bent centrally to form central loops 0 the outer side portions of which are formed into pins 03, and the pin members d are preferably of such length as to overlap when the separate parts 6 are connected as shown in the drawing.
The pins d form supplemental side loops 6 which open in a direction opposite to that of the loops 0. The parts I) and d of each member of my improved fastening device or pin are substantially in the same plane, but the pin members d thereof may be bent into any desired position.
In the use of this device, the separate parts I) of the fastening device or pin may be connected as shown in Fig. 1, and a bow or bows 6 may be formed thereon by folding,
wrapping or looping a ribbon or strip of any preferred materlal around the side portions of the central loops 0 111 any desired manner, or as indicated in Fig. 2, after which the device may be connected with a hat or other garment by means of the pin members cl, and my improvement is not limited to the form of these pin members, and they may be made of any desired shape.
Instead of connecting the separate parts of the fastening device or pin and then forming the bow thereon, the separate parts of said device may be disconnected as shown in dotted lines in Fig. 1 and a bow may be formed on each, after which said parts may be connected as will be readily understood.
In Fig. 3 I have shown a modified form of bow forming, holding and attaching device composed of two separate parts 9 and h each of which consists of a piece of spring wire of predetermined length, the part 9 being formed into a central loop 9 and the end portions thereof being formed into zig zag coils g and g each of which is provided with an attaching member 9 in the form of a pin; while the part 72. is formed into a combined loop and hook member k adapted to engage the loop member 9 of the part 9, and the end portions thereof formed into zigzag coils 72 and h provided at their ends with attaching members or pins h similar to the attaching pin memers I The coils g and lb of the separate parts of the device are preferably greater in number than the coils g and h but these features of construction may be varied to any desired extent. In the use of this device the parts are preferably disconnected as indicated in dotted lines and a bow is formed on the coil members of one or both of said parts after which the members or parts 9 and h are again connected as shown in full lines, and attaching members or pins 9 and it are used for securing the device to a hat or garment in the same manner as with the construction shown in Figs. 1 and 2.
Instead of forming the bows on the separate partsof the device as hereinbefore described, the said parts may be connected as shown in full lines in Fig. 3 and a bow or a number of bows may be formed thereon.
One feature of my improvement is, as will be seen, that normally the central loop members, supplemental loop members and attaching pin members of each part of the device are all in the same plane in both forms of construction, but in view of the fact that the said device or'devices or the parts thereof are composed of spring wire, said parts may be bent into any desired position in the manipulation thereof, and in the operation of forming bows thereon and attaching the same to hats, arments or other articles.
Having fully described my invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is r A bow forming, holding or attaching device or pin for use in trimming hats, garments and the like, consisting of two separate parts composed of spring wire and bent to form central loop members by which said parts are detachably connected, and the end portions of which are bent to form supplemental loop members which open in a direction opposite to that of the central loop members, the outside portions of said supplemental loop members forming attaching pins which project when the separate parts of the device are connected in opposite directions.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my invention I have signed my name in presence of the subscribing witnesses this 27th day of November 1908.
MINNIE FROESE.
