Letters Patent No. 96,611, dated Not-ember 9, 1868.
.FMPROVEMENT IN THRESHING-MAC HINES.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the lame.
To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, WILLIAM H. PERRY, of Ripley, in the county of Brown, and State of Ohio, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Threshing- Machines; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the art to make and use the same, reference beinghad to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification.
This invention relates to a new and useful improve;- mentin upper shoes for grain-threshing machines and It consists in a novel construction of the same, whereby the blast is made to act more efficiently upon the grain than hitherto, and the grain dispersed from smut and other light impurities which are, directcd from or not allowed to pass into the face of the feeder or operator, as'is now the case.
The accompanying drawing represents a side sectional view of my invention.
A. represents the shoe, which is provided with an inclined bottom, a, and a side-delivery spout, b.
B is a slightly-inclined screen, directly over the inclinedi bottom a and spout b, and c is a dischargeopening at the front end of the shoe, to which a discharge-spout, cl, is connected.
G is an adjustable cover for the screen which may be fitted entirely over it when necessary, as, for instance, when the grain contains smut and an excess of chess, 85c.
The shoe is adjusted upon the threshing-machine, so that the blast from the fan will pass through its en'- .tire surface, as indicated by the arrows in the drawing, and when the cover is adjusted over the screen,
when provided with the inclined bottom a, the inclined screen B, the side-delivery spout b, and the dischargeopeuing 0, arranged as described, for the purpose specified. v
2. In combination with the above, the cover 0, substantially as described, for the purpose specified,
' WILLIAM H; PERRY.
