1' 'o all whom it may concern:
Be it known that l, lPnncY 'lh Gnnnnivoon, a, citizen of the United-States, residin at county oit Fairfield and State of Connecticut, have invented certain new and useful improvements in Pipe- Wrenches; and l do hereby declare the tollovving to be afull, clear, and enact description oit the invention, such as Will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to pipe wrenches, and as for its object to provide a simple and. eflicient device ot this description which may be readily adjusted and operated, and with these ends in view my invention consists in of parts hereinafter fully set forth and 'then particularly pointed out in the claims which conclude this description.

llavi n p; thus described my invention what l claim as new and desire to secure hylietters Patent is :M
1. In a pipe Wrench, in combination with the head, formed with a stationary jaw, a rack bar at the rear end' of the :movable jaw', said head being provided fvvith a lateral opening' and further provided with grooves or tracks at the opposite sides et said lateral opening, a Wormlin engagement with said. rack-bar, retainingn hubs integral with. said worm and operating insaid grooves or tracks to allow said worm to be moved toward or away from said rack-bar, a block slidingly mounted within said lateral opening' andhaving` its forward tace concave and conformably embracing said W'orn'i, and spring elements which act against the rear face of said bloelr, said spring elements seatingat one end on the lrear face or' the block and at their opposite ends on the rear end wall of the lateral opening, whereby said Worm is normally forced in Aengagement formed 'with a stationary jaw, a movable jaw carried by the head, said head being provided with a lateral opening extending 4through the opposite sides of the head, the
l nions at its ends disposed in said guideways and adapted to have its trunnions introduced throughsaid gateways, a block having its outer face concave to embrace said Worm, springs to engage the rear Yface of said block and therear wall ofsaid lateral opening, said springs being adapted to force said block against said worm which latter normally engages the movable aw.
3. A plpewrench, comprised of ahead, a stationary jaw, and 'a movable jaw, said head Ibeing provided with a lateral opening and With track ways in the opposite side walls vof said lateral opening, gateways in one side of the head which connect with said slideways, a Worm engagin jaw and having hubs, said hu s being adapted to be admitted to said slideways through said gateways, a block contained in said lateral opening having its outer face concave to embrace the periphery` of the said worm and springs adapted to engage the block to hold same in engagement With the worm.
