To all whom it may concern: A

Be it known that I, HENRY T. PAISTE, a citizen of the vUnited States, residing in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented certain Improvements in Attachment-Plugs, of which the following isa specification.

One object of my invention is to provide an attachment plug of relatively simple and 'compact construction which shall have its parts so .arranged that one section of the lug is free toV swivel on the other without injury to the parts or danger of short circuiting any of the connections.

It is further desired to provide an attachment plug having two separable partsV .provided with means for detachably holding them together, so designed as to permit of their connection byy a straight line movement of one part toward the other.

These objects and other advantageous ends I attain as hereinafter set forth, reference being had to the accompanying drawin s, in which:

Referring first to Figs. l and 4, the section therein illustrated is that designed forthe connection of a flexible cord or double conductor cable, and consists of a body A of porcelain or other suitable non-conducting material having a metallic cap or cover c. This latter has a lining a of fiber or mica and is provided with an outlet in which are placed two insulating bushings a2 and a. On

Centrally located upon the outer face of so as to project at rightangles thereto, is a sleeve?)A1 which passes through an opening in the metallic plate b2, and is flanged so as to be held to the bodythereby as well as to insure its electrical connection to said plate. Within this sleeve there extends a metallic rod or plug c', insulated from it, however, by a sleeve (l of fiber, mica or the like and threaded at its inner end so as to enter a suitably threaded opening in the terminal piece c above referred to. This terminal piece is provided with a terminal screw for the attachment of the second of 1 the `electrical conductors which may enter the cap a. The rod or plug c is rounded at its outer end, and as shown, projects beyond the insulating sleeve cl for a short distance.

The second member of the attachment plug consists of a disk E of porcelain or other suitable nonconducting material, to which is held a hollow cylinder E Valso of porce-V lain, etc., by means of screws e countersunl( in the outer face of thedisk E andepgaged by nuts c placed in suitable recesses in the out-er end of the part E', for holding the parts of the device together. There is an opening e2 passing centrally through the disk E and of a diameter but slightly larger than the diameter of the metallic sleeve b4. The twov parts E and E coniine between their adjacent faces, the inwardly ianged end of a threaded metallic shell F, of the well known Edison type, and it will be seen that where this inwardly flanged part appreaches the o ening c2, it is provided with what are in e ect spring tongue extensions f` so shaped and arranged as to yieldingly, but none the less certainly engage and electrically contact with the sleeve b4 when this is inserted in said opening. j l

Within the hollow of the cylindrical part E and at the end thereof distant from the opening c2 is mounted a semicylindrical contact member g having a spring contact g held to it by means of a screw g2 which passes centrally through the end of the insulating body E and serves to hold in place a circular metal contact .plate g3 as well as to electrically connect said plate to the spring contact members g and g.

When the two members of the device are put together by entering the metallic' plug c -of two members of and the sleeve b4, in the opening e2, said plug engages and electrically connects with nthe contact members g and g, which serve -be seen the two contact plates or members b and c to which a pair of electrical conduc- `tors would be connected, are in turn electrically connected to the second pair of terminalsof the plug formed by the threaded shell F and the metallic plate g3. In one case the circuitwould be completed from the terminal plate c through ,the lug c to the contacts g and g and throng the screw g2 to the plate g3, while in the other case the circuit would be completedfrom the terminal plate b through the screw b3, late b2, sleeve 4 and tongue f to the t-hea ed shell F.

I claim 1. The combination in an attachment plug of two members of which the first has two terminals and two contacts connected thereto, one of the contacts being coaxial with the plug and the other belng concentric therewith, while the second member consists of two bodies of insulating material, means for holding said bodies together, two terminals including a metallic shell having an inwardly extendin fian e confined between the two bodies o? insu ating material by said holding means, with contacts respectlvely. connected to said terminals and capable of engaging the contacts of the first member.

The combination in an attachment plug of two members of which one has a plug, a metallic sleeve, and two terminals respectively connected to said plug and sleeve, and the second member consisting of. a hollow cylinder having a central opening, a disk of insulating material, a threaded shell having aflange confined between said cylinder and the disk, means for holding together the cylinder and disk, a spring contact within the cylinder, a metallic plate on the outer face of the cylinder electrically connected to said spring contact,.with tongues on the flange of the threaded shell placed to electrically engage the sleeve of the rst member when the plug thereon is forced into engagement with the spring contact.

4. A separable attachment plug comprising an insulating cap, electrically connected brackets secured thereto, one of which carries a stem having an insulating bushing fitting and secured to it, the other bracket carrying a contact sleeve surrounding the insulatingA bushing, and an insulating base having a recess which receives the stem,

bushing and contact sleeve and is provided with a contact ring which is engaged by the contact sleeve and contact springs which are engaged by the stem. i

5. A separable attachment plug comprising an insulating cap, electrically connected.
