The lever 9 is provided with a comparatively thick portion 31 of soft iron which serves as an arma-ture for the two magnets.

The operation ot' my device is as follows: The wires 11, 33 and 34: being connected with the thermostat and one or more open circuit batteries (not shown) in a manner already known in the art, the screws 17, 18, are adjusted and the device is ready for use. I Will suppose that at the start the lever 9 is in the position illdicated in Fig. 1 and that the action of a thermostat, or any other suitable device, completes a circuit, external to the device shown in Fig-1, from the wire 1l. to the Wire 34. This circuit may be traced as follows: Battery and thermostat (not shown), Wire 11, armature 3l, lever 9, contact pla'te 12, contact spring 13', binding post 3l, Wire 30, magnet 28, Wire 38, binding post 36, Wire 34:, back to battery and thermostat. This energizes the magnet 28 which there* upon attracts the armature 31 and moves the lever 9 so that the contact plate 12 disen gages the contact spring 13 and engages the4 contact spring 14:. The disengagement of the plate 12 from the contact spring 13 opens the circuit just traced and this remains open for a time, owing to the condition of the thermostat. Consequently, the lever 9 now 'remains motionless in its new position 4until another circuit is completed (by aid 'of the thermostat), this circuit being as follows: Battery and thermostat (not shown), Wire 1l, plate 22, armature 31, lever 9, contact plate 12, contactspring 14, binding post 32, wire 29, magnet 27, Wire', binding post 35, Wire 33, back to battery and thermostat. This circuit energizes the magnet 27 and causes it to attract the armature 31, thereby `restoring the lever 9 to its' origi nal position indicated in Fig. 1. Eachinovement of the lever 9, by shifting the position of the piston opens or closes' the pi e 4 which, as above stated, may be employe for admitting steam, gas or -any other uid or aeriform body into the casing 3. The move- -ments of the piston 6 thus control communi -cation between the inlet pipe 4 and the -outlet pipe 5. In a' building to be1heated,-for
lnsta'nce, the pipe 4 may 'admit steam into the casing 3, this steam passing out through two subscribing the pipe 5 te heating system. It', now, the electric circuits above described be under control of athermostat, it is obvious that changes in temperature, by affecting the Y thermostat, may control the supply of steam.
I do not limit myself in all instances to the exact construction shown, for the reason that equivalents for the various parts may be employed' Without departing from the spirit of my invention.
The operator, by turning the screws 17, 18, may adjust vl'ithin reasonable-limits the travel of the lever 9 and consequently the travel of the valve piston G, which is itself separately adjusted so as to close the valve completely or partially, as desired. In doing this, he may regulate the travel of fluid through'the pipes 4, 5. i
The operator, by turning the nuts 24 and thus adjusting the spool 23 relatively tothe stein 8, may to some extent control the posi tion of the valve relatively Vto its casing and may do this .to some extent independently of the adj ustmcnt of the screws 17, 18.
