Tool! whom it may concisruk Be it knownthat I, ALEXANDER KRA'rzL, a subject of the Emperor of Austria-Hunary, and a resident of the city of New Fork, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Globe or Shade Holder, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.

This invention relates to globe or shade holders for use in connection with gas, elec tric or other light fixtures, and relates more particularly to a device of this class comprising a carrier member adapted to support the globe or shade, a movable keeper mounted thereon and adapted to engage the globe or shade to secure the same in position,;, ;and a controlling member movably mounted upon the first member and operable to. render the. keeper operative, and to release the same.

The object of the invention isto provide a simple, strong and durable holder for globes or shades used in connection with any fixture, by means of whichthe globe or shade can be securely held in position, which can be manipulated easily andrapidly to secure the globe or shade in place, or to recati'on,.in which similar'characters of reference indicate corresponding parts in all the claims, and in which- Figure 1 is an inverted plan view of an embodiment of my invention; Fig. 2 is a transverse section on the line 2-2 of Fig. 1; Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a part of the device showing a detail; and Fig. 4 is a fragmentary, transverse section showing certain details. a Before proceeding to a more detailed explanation of my invention, it should be clearly understood that while I have shown in the accompanying drawings, for example, a type of the device ,which is adapted for use in connection with gas-lightfixtures, It can also be advantageously employed with other a light fixtures, such for example, as electric lights. have certain of the parts stamped or otherwise formed from sheetmetal or the like. Needless to say, certain of the constructive details can be varied in accordance with individual preference'and special conditions without departing from the underlying spirit of the invention. a

Referring more particularly to the drawings', I employ a carrier member or ring 10, having at the outer periphery an upwardly disposed flange 11, within which the base of the globe or shade fits. At the inner periphery the carrier ring has a downwardly disposed flange 12, which acts as a guide or hub for a movable controlling ring 13. The latter is rotatable with respect to the carrier ring and is held-movably in position by means of outwardly disposed retaining cars 14, preferably integral with the flange 12. The ears lat may be spaced any suitable distances apart, and as shown for example most clearly in Fig. 1, may be three in number.

The carrier ring 10 has formed therein by suitable "lines of severance, pairs of downwardly disposed ears 15 between which are -pivotally mounted by means of pins 16,

keepers 17, having curved extremities 18-, and at the opposite ends fingers 19. The keepers are mounted to swing transversely of-the rings, and the flange 11 of the carrier ring-adjacent to the keepers has cut away parts 20, permitting the free movement thereof, so that the curved extremities can be projected inwardly to engage at the base of the, globe or shade to lock the same in position.

The controlling ring 13 at the outer edge has downwardly disposed extensions 21, each rovided with an angularly disposed fingers 19 so that when the controlling ring is rotatably moved with respect to the carrier ring the keepers are swung inwardly or outwardly, in accordance with the direc tion of movement of the controlling ring. The cam slots are suitably inclined, so that a com aratively slight movement of the control in ment of t e keepers to lock or release the globe or shade.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent:

1. A devicev ofthe class described, comprising a carrier ring adapted to support a globe or shade and having at'the outer periphery .a laterally disposed flange, and at the inner periphery, a laterally disposed flange, a controlling ring movably encompassing said last-mentioned flange, said last-mentioned flange having retaining ears extending over said controlling ring, said carrierirlng having pivoted thereon keepers arranged to swing transversel thereof, said first-mentioned flange of sai carrier ring having cutaway .parts permitting the movement of said keepers, said keepers being adapted to engage a 'lobe or shade to hold the same in-place, and each having a finger, said controlling ring having extensions each provided with a cam slot adapted toreceive one of said fingers, and a spring connecting eeaese said rings and tending to hold the same in normal, relative ositions.
