To all whom it may concern Be it knowuthat I, WILLIAM PRICE, of Cincinnati, in the county of Hamilton, and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dumping-Oars for Grading, and the following is a. full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being bad to theaccompanyingdrawings, making a part of this specification, in Which Figure 1 represents an end view. of the car-truck and body, the elevated supporting-fi'ames and camtruunions or dumping-device 0n the track, in position for loading and carrying earth, 860.

Figure 2 shows an end view of the same, with the car-body tipped up on one side, in position for dump- .ing or discharging its contents.

Figure 3 shows the inside of the plate of the camtrunnions, with the flange. and ribs for securing it firmly 'to the end of the car-body.

Figure 4 shows an edge view of the same, as secured to a broken-oft section ot'thc end ofthe body.

Figure 5 is a section through thesame, showing the bolts and nuts for iasteningit on.

Figure 6' shows a side elevation of the dumping-car, flanged Y trunnions, supportingframes, truck-wheels, and track complete.

The object of my invention is to furnish increased facilities for removing earth, in grading roads, streets, or for street orother railroad-tracks, or for excavating for canal, mill-races, or other purposes; and

It consists First, in a single car-body -0r earth-receiver, so constructed that no gates or side openings are required in it, to discharge the load or contents on either side of the truck, at the pleasure ot' the operator.

Second, in the arrangement-torhalwing and balancing the car-body on cam-journals or irregular-shaped trhnnions, secured on the outside of the ends.

'lhirdly, in the construction oi" the trunuious or dmnping-derice, and their supporling-frames, so thatthe car-body will resume its position centrally on the truck, for loading and transporting, and will admit of being tipped up and over, on either side, suflicicntly to discharge the contents'by a man or boy.

To enable others to make and use my improvements in dlunpiug-cars, I ar'ill describe them more fully, re-' ferring to the drawings, and the letters marked there- The truck-frame A may be be made of hard -wood joist or plank, and secured together by bolt-rods a a, extending through both the-side pieces, they being so placed, in relation to the cross or end-pieces of the truck-trams, as to support the elevated frames B B, on which the body'O hangs.

The car-body or earth-receiver Oma-y be made of hard wood; the frame-timbers b 1) maybe light, and of small dimensions; and the box or lining a may be of thin plank or boards, and be sufiiciently strong and durable for the purpose, as it can all be secured at the corners, and all of the .joints in the firmcstmanner, there being no slides or doors to be opened, to discharge the contents, which, when used in the ordinary method of constructing dirt or coal-o ars,'very much weaken the body, and strain the joints, and wear out the slides.

The dumping-device or cam-trunnions D D are made of metal, with a projecting 'flange, d, aml are provided with, ribs 0 e, to fit on to the cleats ff on the ends of the car-body O, and are secured by bolts nearly centrabthe l'urder portion being so shaped that it finds the centre of the suppurting-li'mnes B B, and rests securely on a level when the car is empty, but when filled full, the larger portion of the contents being above the line of its bearings, it isvcry easily lifted fromeither side by taking hold of one of the handles g, secured to the bottom for that purpose.

The side-pieces ot the truck-flame A are also provided with stirrups hit, to put one foot in, so as to enable a boy or a man of low stature to easily liftthe side ofthe car until it preponderates and dumps its load.

there being no doors or hinges or slides to get disarranged or broken,.and are operated, in discharging a load, in less time, andwith greater case, than any that have ever before come to mynotice. 5
