SLIDE ATTACHMENT FOR FLOWS.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JAMES L. Moonn, a citizen of the United States, residing at Polkton, in the county of Anson and State of North Carolina, have invented new and useful Improvements in Slide Attachments for Plows, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improved slide attachment for use in connection with cultivator and shovel plows to run in the bottom of the furrow and immediately behind the plow and embodies in connection with a clamping bar for attachment to the plow stock or standard, a slide bar having a web to bear against one side of the clamping bar and means to secure the web of the slide bar to the clamping bar as hereinafter described and claimedl In the accompanying drawings Figure 1 is a perspective of a slide attachment constructed in accordance with my invention, showing the same attached to and extending rearwardly from the lower end of the plow standard. Fig. 2 is a horizontal sectional View of the same on a larger scale, on the plane indicated by the line 22 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of one of the clamping bars. Fig. 4 is a similar view of the slide bar. Fig. 5 is a detail vertical sectional view of the slide bar on the plane indicated by the line 55 of Fig. 4.
In accordance with my invention, I provide a pair of clamping bars 1 which have offset portions on their inner sides at their front and rear ends which serve to space their intermediate, major portions apart. The rear offset portions of the clamping bars are indicated at 2 and the front offset portions at 3 and said clamping bars are further formed with forwardly extending lugs 4 at their front end to enter the space between the sides of the plow stock or standard a and a bolt 5 is employed which passes through aliningopenings in said lugs and the sides of the plow stock or standard and secures the clamping bars firmly to the standard. The said clamping bars are further provided with bolt openings 6.

Serial No. 512,223.
The slide bar 7 is formed with a vertical web 8 longitudinally thereof which web may be inserted in the space between the clamping bars or placed on the outer side of either of the clamping bars and is provided with vertical slots 9 which may be disposed to aline with the bolt holes 6. The bottom portion of the slide bar is widened laterally to increase the superficial area of its bottom surface which runs in the bottom of the furrow and provide shoulders 10 which extend longitudinally of the slide bar on opposite sides thereof and lie below the clamping bars. Bolts 11 are employed to secure the web of the slide bar between the clamping bars or against the outer side of either of the clamping bars as may be desired and said bolts enable the slide bar to be readily attached to or detached from the clamping bars as may be desired. It will be understood that the shoulders of the slide bar by increasing the width of the lower portion thereof greatly prolong the life of the slide bar and minimize its wear in the bottom of the furrow.
The offsets 3 at the front ends of the clamping bars bear against the rear edges of the sides of the plow stock and prevent angular movement of the slide attachment on the bolt 5, as will be understood.
WVhat is claimed is 1. In combination with a plow standard, a slide attachment comprising a clamping bar having front and rear offsets on one side, a lug extending forwardly from the said front offset and bearing against and secured to the plow standard, and a slide bar having a vertical web bearing against one side of the clamping bar and a widened bottom portion providing a shoulder to bear under the clamping bar, and means detachably securing the vertical web of the slide bar to the clamping bar.
2. In combination with a plow standard having side members spaced apart, a slide attachment comprising a pair of clamping bars having front and rear oflsets spacing them apart and also provided with forwardly extending lugs disposed in the space between the side members of the ploW standard, a bolt securing the said clamping bars bar to the said clamping bars.
to the plow standard and extending through said lugs of the clamping bars and said side members of the standard, and a slide bar having a vertical Web for the purpose set forth, and a widened bottom portion pr0- viding shoulders to bear under the clamping bars, and bolts to secure the Web of the slide 10 In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
