IMPROVED CHILDS CARRIAGE AND VELOCI IPEDE COMBINED. V
The Schedule referred to in these Lettors Patent and making part of the same.
. To all whom it may concern Be it known that I, J OHN O. OLIME, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Combined Carriage and Vclocipede; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the annexed drawings, forming part hereof.
The vehicle herein described is designed for childrens use, its principal features being its capacity of change from the appearance and condition of a carriage, to the appearance and condition of a velocipede, and vice cersq, at will; second, its adaptability, when used as a velocipede, to children of different lengths of legs.
In the drawingsl iguie 1 is a longitwdinal vertical section, taken on a middle line of the vel icle,'when arranged as a velocipede, the carriage-body and the carriage-handle being removed, Figure 2 is a perspective view ofthe carriage-body detached.
Figure 3 is a diametrical section of the front wheel,
- and'a longitudinal section'ofv the crank, employed to turn the front wheel.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the carriage-handle detached.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of the vehicle, ar-
ranged as a carriage, the cranks being removed.
Referring to the drawings a, figs. l and 5, is arecessed piece of wood or metal,
forming the front supporting-part of the running ear.
g b is a forked brace, by which the hind axle is attached to the piece a.
The brace 71 is provided with several holes 0.
d and e are two spring-braces, to which is secured the seat j, which also is provided with holes s, corresponding with holes 0 in the brace.
g, figs. 4 and 5, is the carriage-handle, which is de: tachable, it being fastened to the hind axle, and also to the-seat j; by thumb-screws, as shown.
h, fig. 1, is a bolt, which passes through seat j and front supporting-piece a, and also through one of the holes c in brace b.
A nut and thumb-nut are applied to the lower projecting end of ,bolt 71, which, in connectionwith brace b, form a swivel or hinge-joint. little loosened when the vehicle is arranged as a veloci- This joint, being a pede, allows the front running gear to be guided at the will of the rider.
The hub 'i of the front wheel is tubular-,and' being extended through a 'socketformed for it in the piece a, it constitutes the journals "of the front wheel.
7; It, figs. 1 and 3, are the two cranks by which the front wheel is turned.
The crank it is made fast to the axle m, which passes through the tubular hub i, and its projecting shown. The eye of the crank k is also provided with a similar screw-thread, and is screwed on to the proshuwn, the projecting end of the axle. should be provided witha left-hand screw-thread, so that ineither case, the action of the feet on the cranks, in forcing the velocipede forward, tends to tighten the loose crank against the end of the journal.
n, figs; 2 and 5, is the carriage-body, which is made to conform to the shape of the seat f, and being placed screw, 1), which passes through an eye in one the handle g into the seat f.
When the vehicle is to be used as a carriage,'the cranks k k may or may not be removed, as desired; and when it, is to be used as a velocipede, the careither removed or allowed to remain in place, as desired.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- 1. Combining, with a velocipede, a detachable car'- riage-body, and thus forming a vehicle, capableof being arranged either as a carriage or velocipede for children, substantially as set forth. 2. Making said vehicle, when used as a velocipede, adaptable to children, having different lengthsof legs, by shortening or lengthening the brace'b, substantially as described. 1
3. The combination of the-removable handle 9 with the seat f, carriage-body n, and running gear, all substantially as described and shown, for the purposes specified.

end is provided with a right-hand screw-thread, as
jecting end of the axle m; or if the crank it be passed .through the hub, in the direction, contrary to that on seat j; is secured in position by means of a thumb riage body is removed, and the carriage-handle is
