-." DRINKING-our.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, RICHARD A. HOAR, a citizen of the United, States, residing at Barre, in the county. of Washington and State of Vermont, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Drinking- Cups, of whi'chthe following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanying drawings.
M invention relates to improvements in drin ing c ups of flat form and an object of my inventlon'is to provide a drinking cup of this character which will be simple in construction, very cheap in manufacture and durable and-efl icient in use. In the drawings illustrating the principle .of my invention and the best mode now known to me of applyingthat principle,
cup is made; Fig. 2 shows the same blank with the lateral flaps turned inwardly; Fig. 3 is an elevation of the cup made up or conipleted; Fig. 4. is a plan view of the cup shown in Fig. 3, the mouth=of the cup being open; and Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8 are views of a modified form of drinking cup, which figures correspond, respectively, .to the views shown in Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 4 just described.
The cup is made from a single blank consisting of two parts a, d, integral with each other. The. part a is provided with the latv eral flaps b and the latter are eaeh formed with an 'ear'c at the end adjacent to the line of junction between the parts a, d. In making the cup, the lateral flaps b are turned inwardly as shown in Fig. 2; and then the part d is brought against and pasted over the lateralflaps b. The ears 0 serve to reinforce the corners of the'drinking cup and to makeit leakproof or water-tight and there-.
to increase its efliciency and lengthen its In the cup shown in Figs. 5, 6, 7 and 8, the part a is provided with the lateral flaps I), each of which is formed with an ear c. When the lateral flaps b are turned inwardly asis shown in Fig. 6, the ears 0' meet and serve to reinforce the whole bottom of the cup. The latter is made up or completed Joy pasting the portion d over the flaps b as will be readily understood.-
I claim: v 1. A. drinking cup in fiat form and made from a blank having lateral flaps the lower ends of-which are formed with ears that'extend outwardly at substantially right angles to said flaps and, in the finished cup, extend inwardly parallel'to the bottom to reinforce Figure 1 shows the blank from which the the corners of the latter.
2. A drinking cup in flat form and made from a single blank consisting of two similar parts integral with each' other and adapted Specification of Iietters Patent. Patented J uly 12, 1910. .Application filed May 24,1909. Serial No. 498,007.
to be folded upon each other along the midoils of the blank; one of said parts being formed with flaps which extend lengthwise along its sides and which areformed with ears at their ends near the middle of the blank; said ears projecting outwardly at substantially right angles to the line of depth of the cup and, in the'finished cup, projecting inwardly to reinforce the lower corners thereof.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand at said Barre this twentieth day of May, A. D. 1909.
RICHARD A. HOAR.
