@wenn m3 S2/vi kammen l :ire carried ont b v the struc-ti To all whom 'i 1f ma",H aniram.'`
l'e itlniown that l, isinn iinn'rix linie, a citizen of the `United States, residing near lVnyeross, in the county oi' Bierce und tiene ot Georgia, have invented new and lie-etui improvements in Stills, of which the 'tot lowing' ai Speeitirntion.
This invention relates to stille oi' that rlnss adapted for use in the distillation of wood. und the obiects or' the sinne :ire to pri duce n structure ot this character in which :i long'retnrt inn?,y be need with two oppw siktely disposed combustion elnzn wiiiih '.nn be stoked independently, the ing thin inetnl n'iillA ,supported :it their n per edges bj.' the brick worl- :ind onlin at their lower ef1 in mirth outside o nient bottoni so t .it tliev und to provide uprf entire length so as to impart l degree ot lient o the retort. These ob] ,ets ire disclosed, land shown in the drawings. wl exein l is n side View o'i the ports broken zin/ny, and partly in see more clearly illustrate the position and :irrangeinent of port. Fig. :2 is o section taken on the line -2 of l. 3 is a front end View. Fig. is a det-,iii l'iorizontal section taken through a portion of the still,
in the drawings, the numeral l designntes :i still comprising :i structure 2 of masonry or briekivork, preferably the latter, having a centrally disposed longitudinal passage 3 in which is located e retort Li, the la coinprising thm side wells 5 and front and rear walls and 4" all preferably or" meto e front Wall beingA provided with n sii v'able l door 8 which may he Close steam tigf7 @no i) the lower edges of all other walls being enibedded in the ,ground while their upper edges are supported hy the'hriel: Work as best Seen in Fig. l. The retort is provided with upwardly and inwardlyconverging top mills 9 :1nd in the apex is o passage l@ over which disposed the neck ll of n deine i2 from which :in cdnetion tube 13 leads 'toto condensing receptacle. l5, :ind the coi is adapted to deliver out Vthe nozzle 'o vat 17.
The still is provided :it its opposite sides zit the iront end ot the passage 3 with eppoe nid hides, pant the rear end of the retort,

The bottom of prefernoly has its sides inclined -rdly inwardly as shown :it 39 Wiiieh stands over the tootthe retort whenthe truck is in i vith a. ooncavity 28.
l1 pipe 30, the lat-ter in t rn lending tn- .g a trap 81 having a. nozrooerly piled on the truck which aine@ and the disehare i e 30 has a valve rnitted through the pipe 34. The Wood is therefore charred by dry heat, and this process can be the more eieetvely carried out as the two combustion chambers are capablo of being stoked independently since their doors open at opposite directions and at remote points. The products of combustion pass, out of the fire boxes directly against the thin side Walls of the retort, and iow thence to the rear along said sides through the lues 25, and the smoke linally asses out of the chimney. Yet the fact th the lower ed. ot the Walls are elnhe ,led in the freund and braced by the eement bottom Q7, while their upper edges are held in the masonry or brick work, prevents them from buckling' under the Changing teinperature while permitting them to yield slightly in and out as the temperature rises and falls. After the wood on the truck has become thoroughly charred, this truck isA removed and unloaded and reloaded, or another truck already loaded is run into its place. V/'hile a load is thus being treated, the tar, gum, pitch, oil, creosote and other heavier products drop out of the opening 40 onto the bottoni Q7 and pass out of the discharge While the lighter products such as turpentine, spirits etc. will be carried upwardly With the steam through the dome l2 eeaees to the condenser 14C, and inaygbe drawn oli through the nozzle 16 at Will.
What I claim as new is :-w
A still of the class described, consisting of a structure of masonry or brickworl; ineluding two oppositely disposed eombustion chambers having doors facing away from eaeh other, and a central longitudinal passage between their adjacent ends and leading to a remote stack orehimney; a retort disposed in said passage and having thin metal upright Walls embedded into the ground at their lower edges, the front Wall closed by a door, the rear wall closed forward of said stack, and the side Walls spaced from the sides of said brick Work passage to lorln upright lues leading from the oombustion chambers to the stack, a top for said retort converging to a dome, a lcement bottoin for the retort set within the embedded edges of its walls and having a concavity communicating with a discharge; and a truck adapted to be run into said retort through its door, for the purposes set forth.
ln testimony whereof l affix my signature in presence ot two witnesses.
