To all it 'may concern:
.Be it known that I, JOHN MARCH, a citi zen of the United States, residing at Dil lon, inthe count-y of Beave'rhead and State of Montana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Steam-Pumps, of

My said invention consists in certain improvements 1n a compound steam pump', or air compressor, whereby a very efli'cient construction is secured and. one wherein economy of power and large capacity 1nI operu ation are combined, all as will be hereinafter inorefully described' and claimed.

A similar, but spring supported sliding valve 25 ismounted in the steam chest B2 'ormed'withports 2,6 and 27 adapted to register With ports 28gand 29 in said cylinder. `Bythis arrangement an engine and pump, or compressor, is'. provided wherein the cxpaiisirje force of the 'steam is used' in both directions and balances-the strain .and vibration while its entire force is directed upon i the Work and no part of it is spent against the stationary immovable parts.
Having thus fully described in said invention, what I claim as new, an desire to .secure by Letters Patent, is:
