To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ALPHoNsn BRIFFOD,
a citizen of the United States of America,
residing at New Orleans, in the parish of Orleans and State of Louisiana, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Reinforced-Concrete Jackets for Piling, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.
My invention relates to an improvement in a reinforced concrete jacket for piling, and its novelty will be fully understood from the following description and claim when taken in connection with the annexed drawings and the objects of my invention are to provide a means for preserving piles for an indefinite period and prevent them from being destroyed by worms or insects that exist in alluvial soil or water. I attain these objects by the mechanism illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which;
Figure 1 is an end view, showing pile in jacket. Fig. 2 is a vertical section showing pile when driven into position, reinforced and in a concrete jacket. Fig. 3 is a sectional View.
Similar numerals refer to similar part-s throughout the several views.
In the drawings, 1 designates a pile which may be of any form.
2- is a concrete mush or mass.
3 is a reinforced shell.
l is a wire netting placed in position in the manner shown in Figs. 2 and 3 and forms an interior part of reinforced cover.
5 are steel bars placed in position as shown in Figs. 1, 2 and 3 and give strength to the interior portion of jacket, and when these bars project in the manner shown in Fig. 3 enable the placing of structure or extension upon same.

In practice the pile is driven in the usual manner, the outer shell and netting being placed in position and the water is pumped out of the shell. The concrete is then by any suitable means placed around the pile and between the netting and the outer shell and the steel bars placed in position and when these formalities have been complied with, the pile is within a reinforced jacket which is impervious to water or the ravages of worms or insects which infest the water fronts of docks on tide water.
The advantages of my invention are its economical construction, and durability.
Having described my invention and the manner in which the same is or may be can ried into operation would say in conclusion that I do not limit myself to the precise details shown in illustration, as the same may be varied to some extent, but
What I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is- The combination with a pile of a protecting covering comprising an outer reinforced shell and inner concrete filling between the pile and said shell, vertical reinforcing bars in the concrete filling and a ring in the upper part of the shell.
